Post 968/944 rear deck swap ?

I saw over on the 968 site that it was possible to remove the rear deck and replace it with rear seats. Will that work the other way around ? I would love that storage space in my 944. Anybody attempt it or know someone that did ?

If your interior is black then I'll swap. It's a direct exchange between the S2 Cab and the 968 Cab. The US 968 gave up the rear seats, as the US gov't insisted on three point belts in the rear; previously lap belts were sufficient.

I'm pretty sure it is possible, and has been done, someone just posted about trading their rear deck in a 968 cab for some seats, so I'm pretty sure it can be done.

I'm going to use lap belts for the rears when I do the swap, the chassis has knockouts for the belt anchors-as the RoW cars had rear lap belts on the cabs.

Tim, they must be 944S2 CAB rear seats or they won't swap.

the problem I have with my rear deck is that the cabs have a tab on each side that the deck mounts to, the coupes lack this because it would be quite uncomfortable for back seat occupants. so my deck is kinda unstable, it just pivots on the outer lap belt bolts where it mounts. Pluss I would like to get tumblers for the doors that match my ignition and every other lock in the car. My interior is tan and the deck is black, but Black matches everything...

Damian,

I know PAP in GA had a few decent S2 cabs they were parting out. Maybe they'll have some seats.
