Well I went to picknpull today to look for parts for my new Audi project, and what do I find instead?



A 1989 s2 with only 75k miles, killed for the stupid Cash For Clunkers thing.

There was some light body damage, and the paint was a little faded, but overall, a nice car. Someone was walking away with the Brembos as I walked up, and PicknPull was selling the d90's with tires for $250 bucks in the lobby.

I snagged a perfect dark blue leather 2 way power drivers seat for 40 bucks, and a turbo rear valance for $6.99. The Passenger seat was splitting at the seams a little bit, so I passed. I'm going back for the turbo bumper as soon as I can, and maybe the hatch as well as it wasn't separating from the frame.

Anyone looking for some dark blue interior pieces, or body pieces? The header panel had been mangled by some moron trying to remove it, but the hood is good, and the glass is good.

Anyways. I would have killed to get that engine, but now its lost forever

I found 4 944's in my local pic-n-pulls in the last few weeks.
One had black scripted seats (passenger and rear very nice).

I could use the seat...mine is torn up.

I could use a sunroof liner (or really the whole sunroof) and also any of the roof upholestry...but it sounds like it was already messed up?

When I checked, my 951 was not eligible for cash for clunkers since it had too good of gas mileage.

Liquid Glass - Some sort of silican solvent, siezes the motor in seconds.

I would assume the head is still good...

Who knows why these cars end up in scrap yards. I doubt Cash4Clunkers though, they get too good of mileage to qualify.

Probably had a busted head, owner might have been a long way from home, couldn't afford the repair or figured it wasn't worth it, likely it came from a tow yard's lien sale.

It's like being an organ donor, at least it's parts will live on in another car

The head is usually what seizes first due to the steel cams running in bare aluminum journals with no bearings. Add to that the lifters and guides full of sodium silicate... the head is likely to be ugly.

I'm not sure it actually qualified, the EPA rating is supposed to have been 18 MPG combined or less and the rating is (a daft) 15/23 or 19 averaged. It'd be a shame if they clunked it for nothing.

The paint is supposed to indicate the motor has been clunked, but I suppose a wily person could have marked the engine of a non-clunker like that to get a steal on it later.

Why the f*** would they kill the engine? That seems like a huge waste of perfectly recyclable parts. From an environmental and economical standpoint - it makes no sense.

Its all Garbage..! Head is trash..! Block is Trash... Anything that Motor Oil would pass through is Caca... So Sad too...

I watched them do this at the local junkyard which i am friends with the people there... It is supposed to take 2 minutes or so for the motor to lock up but some cars ran for over an hour before they actually stopped...

You are right it is "sodium silicate" or liquid glass it virtually gets stronger as the motor gets hotter... there is no repair or reversal of the process and it is trash...

However the transmission is still Good..! Might wanna grab that since it has the 40% LSD and a nice gear ratio...

Does it Have a Batwing..? or a good Sunroof seal..?
