Post 944 sighting in the matrix

I'm sure a lot of you have already heard about this, but I was up late watching this movie and decided to capture a couple of frames from the movie then use photoshop to composite the entire car. Here it is:

and the composite:

I hadn't heard about that before, very cool. that's pretty obviously a 944 profile. I wonder what wheels they had on there, the black centers are too small to be cookie cutters or fuchs. Skip's wheels (not OEM, I forget what they are) have small centers like that, with larger bare metal sides. Did you get yours really cheap of a backlot in hollywood, skip?

On a related note, I test drove a 1963 lincoln continental today, which is the car they were riding in. (I don't know which year, I haven't seen the movie lately to check, but it's a '61-'65 or so, black.) It was white, not black, sadly. Might buy the lincoln with a friend as a project car/cruiser.

Kinda looks like a 924. I must say that I noticed the car the first time I watched the Matrix, without being told to look for one. I'm kinda proud of myself. Anyway, anyone else think it's a 924 or maybe just a Euro 944.

Looking at the back end, the bumper (or whatever it's called across the pond) is US, not Euro IMO. Front end looks like a 924 to me. If memory serves, the old 924 turbo's used to have wheels like that (kind of crossed wires in alloy).

Anyway, more importantly, note that Keanu Reeves turns to look at the car as he's going past - must have been impressed

Sheez, I need a life myself now

The 924 would have circular side markers in back (front too?). You can just barely make out the rectangular side marker in back in the first pic.
Thats a 944.

Yeah I watched the matrix many a times, and I thought that blur seemed familiar. Pretty cool indeed. What other movies are 944s in? I know of one in "Not another teen movie" I believe that one is a red 86 NA

Hitbyastick, there's a movie called "Sixteen Candles" ('80s chick flick, my sister watched it all day every day) and the "rich, handsome, dream-date guy" drove a red 944. Couldn't tell you the year, I was probably 14 last time I saw the movie.

Sixteen Candles was just on TBS and I recorded it so I could take a closer look at "Jake"'s 944. The movie was released in 1984 so it's an early NA. There's one scene toward the end of the movie where he is in the car and the camera is outside the passenger window so you can see the early dash. Otherwise, it looks just like my '86!

It's an automatic as well. I think it's an '83-'85 model due to the fender-mounted antenna.

Ok - here is my impersonation of an outtake from that scene in the Matrix.....

(Keanu) - "Dude, stop filming, there is some sort-of weird thing coming up on my left..."

(Director) - "Keanu - that is a car, You're driving in one right now...."

(Keanu) - "Awesome dude" (while playing an air guitar)

(Director) - "Keanu......wrong movie."

(Keanu) - "Opps, sorry, now lets go stop that bus!!"

(Director) - "Sighhhhhh - I have to stop working with Canadians!"

On a side note - Jake was the reason I bought my 944. I've seen 16 Candles about 100 times (and Weird Science about 250 - there is a 928 in that movie). In Junior High I actually dressed like Jake - brown deck shoes, Levi's 501 Jeans and the Plaid Polo Shirt........did I mention I'm Canadian also!!!

The guy in "Not Another Teen Movie" was a spoof of the "Jake" character, hence the (very sharp looking) 944.

Tifo,

That would be funny if the Sixteen Candles 944 was really an automatic because that would be a big movie gaffe. If I remember correctly, Anthony Michael Hall ends up driving Jake's dad's Cadillac because he can't drive Jake's car because "I can't drive stick."

If I still have that tape, I'll check it out.

Another 944 sighting - the very first episode of Jackass. there is one in an intersection during one of the stunts. I'll have a screen shot in a few minutes. I just have to find the cd I have it on.

Actually it's in the first season, second episode, during "urban kayaking". I'm having trouble getting a screen shot. Maybe for tomorrow.

I just have to say I noticed it too without being told it was there. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />
