Post Clicking noise in rear end.

Just yesterday the rear end, more on the driver side, started making this clicking/knocking noise. Noise speeds up when I go faster and it is only present when I am putting power to the rear wheels. If I coast it goes away. Any Ideas on what this could be before I go see the mechanic?

Thanks

That is kind of what I was thinking too. Should I replace them all or is one at a time ok? Is this something that should only be done by a professional or can a home mechanic do this one? Anyone who has done this please let me know the difficulty, thanks.

I have that same problem, when I take off from the line there's an annoying knocking sound in the back.

Maybe you should get more fibre in your diet.

I agree with Jim, cv joints would seem the most likely suspects. The Haynes manual gives a good account of the repair procedure. I think that there would also be plenty of stuff available if you do a search of this board. Not too hard to do - just very dirty.

Yeah it sounds like the cv joints, and putting them in is easy... just take out the bolts that hold in the axles and stick the new one up there and bolt it in.

CV joints. They're bolted on by 6 bolts on each, and they're the infamous 12pt internal socket type. Make sure to thoroughly clean the heads of these bolts before removing them. Tap the tool gently into the bolt head and keep it centered. If you don't, you stand a very good chance at stripping it out and having to drill it, not fun.
