Stereo head unit opinions?

That clarion still doesn't come close to the Blau OEM look. I searched high and low before I replaced the oem Monterey unit and the Toronto has server me very well for a while.
If anyone cares, here is how it looks in the 944/951 dash. Oh, and that key card is a great security feature ... I really hate messing with the removeable face on the sony explode in our accord.

I'm planning on putting in a Pioneer Premier P730, cause I'm just going to take it out of my old car. I'm thinking that it really isn't going to match the interior, but I'd hate to get rid of it ($420 new). I should blend in a lot better than some of those other ones though. I'm getting some Blau speakers in a week or two for my birthday, so changing it all over should definatly improve the sound.
Oh, and even though it only puts out 25x4 RMS, running through the 6 x 9's in my old car some people thought I had subs.

I put an alpine in and it looks fine to me. I also dont look at the radio when im driving. you guys are worrying way too much about looks. the alpine sounds great with the alpine speakers, and the best part is the whole setup cost less than 500 installed.

I have to agree with some of the other comments. I think many of the aftermarket Blau's really have a quality issue. I have the Houston in my car and am just not all that happy with it. For some odd reason, the sound quality seems to have deteriorated over time. I had an Alpine, and liked it much better, though the buttons were very small.

I put a Rockford Fosgate unit in my 84NA about a year ago...I was looking for a good quality, relatively in-expensive unit that did not look like a video game at nite ( seems like the German stuff is follwing the stuff from Japan...trying to mimic the Las Vegas strip! )
The RF unit is simple white ( or lite blue) at nite and has a single CD player...it can control an MP3 player or CD changer and sounds great! I bought it at BEST BUY but they no longer carry RF.

As far as the Blau reliability issue, my family owns 3 Tokyos, and ALL of them have problems! This is REALLY unfortuanate, because they have lots of good features and completely update the 944 interior (much like the 951 nose does...).
Our Tokyos went back to MidWest via the seller for repair/refurb. Hopefully the issues can be straightened out, as they (Blaus) are a perfect addition to these cars when functioning properly.
MidWest, are you listening? Perhaps this thread should be emailed to them?

Hey All,
I haven't heard anyone mention Nakamichi yet?
In my opinion, probably the finest built headunit out there right now and very understated. Popular amongst the 928 guys anyway.......
FWIW

JVC Kameleon. Great head unit with really nice features (inputs for dvd and other stuff) Plus it's totally unoticible when off. I know there are other radios that do this but the Kameleon looks the best and is the best value.

Hey Bernie-
If you check all the way back to my first post, I mentioned the Nakamichi 45z is said to have lame radio reception--and radio is pretty important to me. Otherwise, it is the best rated CD player out there...
My Blau Heidelberg is strange--push the buttons too hard, and it goes back to the beginning menu! And, when you press track skip for the CD player, sometimes it goes BACK to the start of the song you want to skip!
Too bad Alpine doesnt make a decent looking (ie: not a video game) head unit--they are reliable as hell.
