Question Belt squeal

After overheating problems, I just got done with injectors R&R, Tstat, fan thermoswitch, radiator and block backflush, and I was cranking to start flushing/bleeding coolant. The 3-pulley belt between the PS belt and the timing cover - that's the accessory and A/C belt, right? I had both of those belts off during the work. The PS is only 200 miles old and I took this chance to replace the acc. belt. After replacing the belts and starting, I had a bad belt-sounding squeal and shut the car off.

1) I had tensioned them by feel - the half-turn. After shutting off, the top section of the accessory belt feels much looser than the bottom section, which is the section I was tensioning with, using the turn buckle. Can I even that up?

2) Is there much chance that my previous overheating was caused by the water pump (no horrible belt sounds at the time), that during my recent work the pump has given up the ghost, and the bad belt sound is from the timing area?

The multi rib and the PS belt have to be pretty tight......make sure they are! You could remove the upper timing cover half and check the play on the waterpump pulley if need be, not too long a job, just check the shaft for play.
