Strange tire feel...WTF!! HELP!
Ok...just got my SP8000 this afternoon for my '88 944 Turbo S. Had old Yokohama A008R on before.
Went out and tried some hard cornering and the car feels as if it's "sliding" or "slithering" on it's tires!!! In a straight line I swerve severly left and right and it feels as if the car is kind of mushy and slides back into it's line when I straighten out. WTF!!! With the old, OLD A008R it felt like every move I made was conveyed exactly to the wheels.
This does NOT feel right! Much smoother ride now but feels VERY strange. Could this be the tires? Or is it just me? I need to figure something out because I'm taking this suckers back if my Porsche is going to feel this unresponsive.
HELP!

Very likely its the tires...those yok's were race tires or very close to it...
You could try an alignment (get it back to factory spec or maybe more aggressive?) or playing with tire pressures (higher in the front I would think)?
Maybe they need to be broken in?? (nothing special to do, just drive as far as I know)

Brand new tires are greasy for the first few hundred miles. The install shop should have told you that. Be careful or you might wreck your car.

Heh, heh... those old A008Rs, even with age, will out-stick just about any and ALL street tires out there. What you're feeling with the SP8000 is perfectly normal; you've just gotten used to sticky tires (while the SP8000 is one of the most slippery) . Get some of the newer Yokohama A032Rs and you'll feel much better!

Okay, I thought the AVS Sports were Yokahama's best (sportiest) tire- is that not so? Many people regard SP9000's as better thann SP8000's, but they really aren't- Tire Rack's comparison shows the SP8's as stickier- they said the SP9's were quieter though. I've always assumed the SP8000's were Dunlops best, for the street anyway- any input on this stuff?
I had AVS Intermediates on my 1st Gen Integra and really liked them- I have SP8000's on my Turbo S- they have lasted longer than ANY other tire I've EVER had- 25K- rears have ~10% before I'd call them gone & fronts probably 1/3 or so- of course, they're ALL I've had on the 951- I think tires last a little longer on it than FWD Integra. Anyway, SP8K's are OKAY, but I'm planning on trying something else next- Bridgestone Pole Position 3's- does that sound right? I saw themm on Tire Rack and they tested WELL in their comparisons w/other high dollar tires, but they were relatively cheap...
Also, Adrial, flight, etc are all correct- break-in takes at least a FEW miles, AND, possibly more important: tire pressure. I can really tell a difference in just one or two psi- I always keep ALL 4 of my tires even and at factory specs- 36psi. It really SEEMS like my car is harsher over bumps, etc when my tires are UNDER inflated than right on or a little OVER...
Anyway.... <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />

Your tires probably still have a bit of mold release on them. Some tires are worse than others for this. My Yoko A520s had exactly the same feel. This lasted only a couple of days or so and then they were wonderful.
Once you run off the mold release you'll be fine.
