Post Dark blue 951?

Does anyone have a dark blue 951 or know if Porsche even offered this color on the 951? IMO, I think this color looks the nicest, while my NA is darkblue, I have yet to see a factory 951 in this color.

In 86 I know they offered Coppenhagen Blue for the 951. There was one recently for sale in the rennlist classifieds. Not sure if it was offered in 87 and later.

They most certainly did, although I'm not sure what the factory name of each color would be- the 951 was offered in ocean blue I beleive. At any rate, there were at least THREE different factory blues for the 951- my favorite is DanP's of this list- glacier blue 1989 (w/linen, DARK blue, & black interior)- he doesn't know it, but it's really MY car & he's just taking care of it for me It's a very light metallic(?) blue that looks almost sliver in some photos- actually, there's an NA on this list the same color- Matt Olde's I believe and I think it's an '89 too- I DO have pics of DanP's 951 if you want to see, but I have lots of trouble posting them- I CAN e-mail them to you...

There was an '88(S) or '89 951 featured in European car several years ago that I think was called ocean blue- it was pretty dark, and had a black interior- the DARKEST blue 951 I've ever seen is a local 1989 951 w/linen & black interior- I almost bought it instead of my silver Turbo S- it's almost TOO dark for my tastes- I normally like lighter cars, and I usually don't like blue cars either- I think there are VERY few cars out there that can pull off being blue, and our's is one of them, as ALL of the blue 944's I've seen have looked nice to me...

EDIT: I know the local guy, so if it would really help you, I can get the name of the color, or at least the paint code, as it's only ~15 miles away... Also, my mom just bought a digital camera, so I'm hoping to be able to borrow it totake some shots of my car- I was hoping to get a few of that guy's car too- I'm trying to get a nice collection of various colors of these car together... You can e-mail me directly if I can help you in any way...

That looks almost black- it COULD be the same color of the local one I was referring to- I would have to see a few different shots under different lighting, angles, etc...

Copenhagen Blue (LY5B) is often mistaken for black, is very rarely seen and looks fantastic, especially in evening light. Maybe I am biased

I've seen 968's in a dark Royal Blue, not as dark as those pictured. Wonder what color that is?

Question

Hey-sorry to be off topic and a little uneducated.

Elon-is your 85.5 front end factory "Euro". I haven't seen a Euro NA before-I am wondering if I can get that front end somewhere in the states-it looks awesome!

Here is a pic from Jason (Rennlist poster forgot his username). It's an '89 951, blue in color. He recently purchased it and I've been in contact with him throught the board. As far as I know it's dark blue, not sure what the exact color name is though.

Robby... Thanks so much for the very kind words. I do know she's a rare bird, when I first found it I wasn't sure if it was too "feminine" of a color for me, but I've grown to like it and it's rarity. I've found a couple of S2's in Glacier, and I know of one Turbo in Cali, (sort of funny story, we were in a Car and Driver chat room, we had just discovered we both had 89 Turbos, and I typed "glacier blue" and he wrote back "how did you know?" thinking I had some secret info on him. small world, I guess)

Here's a previously unreleased pic: (I think)

My records show, in 88 they made two blues, Azure Blue (non-metallic, looked like black) and a Metallic Ocean Blue.
In 86, you could get Sapphire metallic (silver with a hint of blue) and Copenhagen Blue, a dark dark blue.
In 89, I have listed a non-metallic Azure Blue, (dark) a middle blue called baltic blue metallic, and a light blue called ::blush:: Glacier blue metallic.
If anyone has pics of a car and are unsure the color, mail the pic to me with the year (86, 88, or 89) and I'll do my best to compare it to the chip and figure the colors.

FWIW: For all you Zematt guys, beware..in 89 there was a color called linen grey metallic that is virtually INDISTINGUISHABLE from zermatt silver in the color samples.

Cool

A few more teasers for Robby..

I met this gentleman from Toledo at the Porsche concours, Mid-Ohio at the PCA Club Race.

You can tell he's an S2 by the different wheels.. similar, but very different up close.

It is funny how the cars have different appearances..Mine (far) with tinted windows and light interior, his with factory glass and a dark blue cockpit.

<img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> Here's to those of us with the "Blues"
