Post DME noise? anyone?

Hi all,
I have a strange noise in my 951S. It's coming from the area near the DMe in the pass. floorboard. It happens only at part throttle and on/off throttle situations. The sound is like a selenoid clicking off and on multiple times, so fast that it sometimes has a crackling character. What could it be? anyone with similar situation. Driving isn't affected during these events, it's just a bad sound since it's electrical.

I have chips in the car, but I have never messed around the box myself and there are no leaks into the footwell. thanks for any help,

Jason

It's your A/C & heater releys which causes this.I suppose you will hear this sound also if you turn heat selector **** while driving.

Jason, I just posted a similar question titled, "Where is the DME Relay". I am hearing that same loud clicking from the passenger footwell as well. Seems to occur mostly on hot, hot days.

Ollie, I replaced the AC relay last year and it was in the engine compartment fuse/relay box. What are you referring to?

What I suspect that Olli is referring to are the two solenoid valves under the dash on the passenger's side of the console. They're operated by the climate control brain, and control vacuum to open / close the heater valve & operate one flap (?) in the mixing box.
Like a relay in that it uses a solenoid to operate something, but here it's a vcuum valve instead of electrical contacts.

See the "Where is the DME Relay" thread for more info.

Be aware that you may be developing problems in the CC brain or its wiring, since rapid clickig indicates that the logic in the brain is 'dithering' for some reason.
