What 6-speed Transmissions fit in the 944..?

The stock s transaxle would have you at 4k rpm @ 82mph or so. It should be a 5 speed. If I was you I would go looking for an S transaxle or an NA 944 transaxle.

FWIW if it's a 968 gearbox (with much lower gears) it has a typical german shift pattern (sixth all the way to the right and rearward).

Is your tach correct? I can't actually think of any gears available or gearbox that would fit that would have 6spds and such a low 6th gear.

Technically, a 5 spd trans has 6 gears if you count reverse. You sure you're not counting reverse?

6 speed would work well for a turbo, so long as you run a 25 3/4" tire like a 285 35 18.
