Post sleepy needle...

ok i found this out the hard way... sometimes my MPH needle just doesnt work. i changed my guage faces to some white indoglo ones, theyre nice. but earlier tonight i was comming home and a cop pulls up behind me at a red light. i start going and i look down to see how fast im going and my MPH needls is still jsut sitting at 0. so im liek crap i dont knwo how fast im going and theres a cop behind me. finaly i get to 5th gear and it just jumps. right to 45. did i break something while putting the needle back on or what could that be. the needle is on jsut the way it was befor i changd the faces.

I believe this is pretty common. Mine has done the same thing since I've had it (~5 years).
I have not seen a definitive response to fixing this.

Forgot to mention that a light tap on the plexiglass over the gauges will wake up the needle on mine.

Hey, I have the same problem and have to tap the glass once in a while. I heard that a bad ground will cause this. I just got my indiglo kit. How is it? I will install in the next week or so. I will look into the connections then. Just wanted to know if they work and where you taped into the power? I will let you know if I still have the needle problem after I do the install.

i actially just took out the light bulbs that were used to light them and soldered the connectors to the + and - of the light bulb housing since i no longer need them. they work so good. i can actually see how fast im goign at night (which is conveinient). i have some of the color changing ones. i put the little button pad under the dash so i can change it with my knee when i have ladies in the car with me and theyre like ohhhh thats so cool. you know how it is.

As promised, I love the indiglo lights.. a bit ricey. But the white dials work for me.. sort of hate that the non lit up stuff shows thru a bit. But I can see now. I tapped into the original lights so I can dial down the brightness a bit.. Unfortunately my speed indicator still sticks. might be worse now. My odometer has not worked since I got the car. Still does not. But I have 3 less miles now.

Hey, you guys with the intermittent gauge problems should look into this possible fix. It worked for me. If when you tap near the gauge and it starts reading properly, you may have bad connections at the ribbon/wiring harnesses on the back of the gauges.

My voltmeter behaved this way, and I pulled the cluster, and upon closer examination of the female harness connectors that connect to the gauge pod, I noticed that some pins were bent out, and weren't making good contact with the cluster. Using a pointed instrument, I bent them back in shape. Since then I haven't had a problem with any of my gauges.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I noticed a bit of oxidation on the ribbons but that did not fix it. Will look into the other side of it...

Question

I just got a set of the indiglo gauges, but there were no instuctions. Can anyone here post a quick set of directions for putting this in?

Thanx,
Michelle
