Post Louvers

Just a Q, I was wondering if anybody out there has seen a 944 with rear window louvers..I had a 70 Mach 1.. it greatly decreased the heat inside when sitting in the sun all day.. do these exsist for this car? If so where can I purchase them?

AAhhhh, don't do it billybones. The next thing you'll do is put on traction bars . Seriously, if anyone would make them, it would probably be AIR or GT Racing. What color/set-up Mach 1? 428 CJ w/ a C4 finished in Calypso?

Eric(prefers the 69 Mach 1, but the 70 is still sweet)

Just take them off of your IROC and, w/some modifications, you could make them fit. That would really make the car suitable for your neon light kit and 5 12" subs!

Just having some fun...

Thanks for keeping the flame alive! In the hot sun these days they would be good. I was thinking about trying to make something. Also thinking of dark tint. I'm a wimp about heat and I deleted the AC. This was supposed to be a winter car, but I found that it is such a nice car I drive it often. My 914-6 is languishing in the garage lately.

My first car was a 69 Mach I with a 429 SCJ. Used a quart of oil a week and fouled plugs once a month and would still go through a set of back tires every 6 weeks. Ahhh...youth! Ever try to change the plugs in a 429 SCJ? Ranks up there with clutch changes on a 944.

You are in the wrong decade. They were common in the 80's at places like Performance Products. Try eBay for a used one maybe?

Man, what memories...

Bones944 - I drove a 69 Mustang with a 428 CJ once. I took the car out of the lot (test drive you know) and stomped the go pedal. I thought the thing was a real dog at first. I mean I hit the gas and NOTHING was happening. Then I looked in the rear view mirror and realized I wasn't going anywhere because the tires were smoking off several thousand miles of what little rubber was left! Damn that think was FAST!

One of my favorite 'stangs in high school was a friends 70 Mach I. It was light blue with the louvers, I'd love to have owned that car. My ride in those days was a 68 fastback Barracuda, which was a pretty nice ride itself!

There was an old man (at least we thought he was old then) who hung out with us young punks back then (1978) who had a '70 Boss 302. He had the engine built by Hollman-Moody (sp?) and bolted on nitrous to boot. That car was outrageously fast going straight! The only car that felt like it out accelerated it was owned by the owner of the shop who fixed some damage from a storm on my first 944. I was driving in a storm one night in 1986(55 mph) and a 12 foot oak limb came through the windshield. It came through on the passenger side fortunately, otherwise I wouldn't be typing these words now. Anyway, this shop painted with the original German Glaserit paint system, and the owner had a RUF 930. He came by my apartment to pick me up to get my car.....once through the turbo lag it was tunnel vision baby! Quickest acceleration I've ever felt!

With big curvy hatchback they're bound to look awful. Some Mustangs, Lambo Miura, yeah they looked great. I even had one put on my 1976 Alfetta GTV, painted silver to match the car, and it was really nice. The company that sold the most aftermarket was Chastain IIRC.

Wasn't someone doing a custom rear hatch several months ago? Find him and have him incorporate your louvers. Bound to look better than louvers on a stock rear window, IMHO. Traction bars, now there's an idea whose time has come! With a good set of traction bars on my 944 I to can crawl over the RR tracks at 2 MPH like the low riders

My solution to the no A/C is simply never slow down

It can be challenging in town. Good luck, I think I'll try the window tint idea.

I once drove a car with louvers!!

It was a '59 Bug and I've got to admit, that you can't live without 'em! Especially when you consider that the thing would overheat without 'em!

Happy Fourth, everyone!

Have a safe one!
