Default Falken RT615 tires - quick feedback

Hey dudes...

Some of you had a discussion with me about the tires I have on my car. Here is the follow-up I promised about them. Tire specs:

Tire: Falken RT615 (Hybrid track / street tires)
Front: 235/40/17
Rear 255/40/17

I ran them briefly on track this last Sunday at Road Atlanta and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Based on the previous input on Falken tires, I think the previous version of these tires have a poor rating on track. I happy to report that my car did VERY well on them.

As a caveat to this - Please note that ambient temps were in the low 80's with a mix of clouds and sun on the track. My car also weighs in around 2600# without driver.

I started out with cold pressures at around 28 psi all around. I was told to do so by some folks on the racing forum that run these as well. The tires do heat up quickly and have a great level of grip. This session really helped me determine where the tires were when I scrubbed them in. the next track weekend I attend should give me a better idea where the tires will be as I work the car a bit more.

So far, not too bad. A great value if you are an AutoX'r and a track junkie. Nice grip if they are heated up evenly and at a nice gradual pace. More to come.

Hopefully your next track day you will be able to avoid the flag... I have been happy with Falkens on my street car.. good to see they worked out for you on the track as well...

I was happy with mine but had too small a tire on the front of my 951 in regards to the rear and it was pushing bad. Might take it back out on the 19th to try it as it sits now with 255's up front and 275's rear. Great cheap tire.

I have found they can get pretty greasy when they get too hot. Lots of others have complained about the treadwear, but I rotate mine very frequently with a 255 square setup and I've managed to make them last pretty well.

That was true of the RT-215, but that has not been my experience with the RT-615. I'm also very happy with the treadwear - I can't rotate because I run staggered.

I wish they made these in a 315-35/17 so I could run them on my other car

What spring rate and damper setup do you run? That's my plan (255's at all corners), but my spring rates are a lot different than what most people here seem to be running.

I have bilstein escort cup rear shocks with 250lb helper springs and 375lb fronts with koni yellows (soon to be changed to escort as well). I've stopped using the Azenis for the track since I got dedicated track wheels and R888 rubber in 275R 255F. I would estimate in my hands, the R888 are about 4% faster around our course. In addition, the Azenis in square 255 was about 2% faster than Fuzion Zri in square 245.
