I have a couple replacement "trays" for the center console left. I got a bunch of them a while back and replaced all the hinge parts with them in my cars. I like them much better.
$25 new in the bag from Porsche if you want one.
I sold some in my "garage sale" thread a while back. You can see it in a group picture in this post.

I went to the local hobby shop and found just the right size hinge. I bought 2 ea 6" hinges with screws for a jewelry box and used a hot glue gun to affix the hinges. Used my dremel tool to drill the little screw holes and it has been on now several months. My daughter laughs at me and said it was a wonder I had not removed the hinges from HER jewelry box to fix my Porsche.
Cheers,
Larry

Travis, does that 'tray' work in early cars?
I currently have a new hinge here waiting for me to re-glue the leather on the armrest to install it, but I've already broken two of them (not me, passengers somehow unable to get in and out of the car without assistance from my flimsy armrest cassette holder useless box) and I'd much rather have that tray so I can actually rest my cell phone or wallet somewhere.
Thanks

And Curt,
The rubber inserts? Do you have a pic of them or a part number?

I rest my elbow too much to replace the padded door with a tray. Otherwise I would! My hinge is about to go, I'm afraid.
UPDATE:
I went to go check out Hobby Lobby and it turns out the one I went to had moved. So I'll have to check again later. I'm looking to fix mine and if I find anything worth mention, I'll snap some shots and let you know how it all goes!

Ahh, the "coin tray" in the related items from that link is what I am talking about. I can get the insert shown there but for $30 I would just get out my siscors and go to town on some rubber sheet if I were you.

Sorry about the lousy pic, but here's what I did. My hinge was broke, but I also wanted something taller and more useful. I'm going to redo the pad with top seams, and change the front insert to something that goes with the car's interior but...

And where do you get something like that? Also, do you bang your elbow when shifting? I had another car with a taller style center console and I had to pull it, because I always hit my elbow when I wasn't paying attention!

I like that! If you made it, you should post a DIY for it.
If I had that, my elbow wouldn't get sore when I drive with my gangsta lean!
(PS... take off the fake sheepskin seat covers!! lol)

I made it. The top doesn't have hinges, it pulls off. I don't hit my arm/elbow when shifting because of the front curve. I thought it would have been a good location for a drink holder, but that would have been in the way.
As far as the sheep skin covers? I didn't care for them either, but they're real and considering that the seats are in great condition because of them, I put them back on. (lens was dirty, no big spot on front)
