Will VW/Audi Antifreeze Work in a 944 na?
Living on the edges of civilization-180 miles to the nearest Porsche dealer-sometimes presents problems. I did read the recent thread on coolant and distilled water-but have been having a problem with which antifreeze to use. Does anyone have experience with VW/Audi ZVW-237-G12 (pink) or ZVW-237-05 (blue)? It seems to be the only stuff locally for our engines.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks-we don't have many hot days but last week it got to 95 and she ran way hot-nothing like TN but wicked hot for Maine-reminded me that it was time. I'll get some tomorrow and hope for the best.

I use the ZVW-237-05 (blue) from my friendly VW dealer. Two Porsche trained mechanics mentioned thats this coolant is the closest to or the same as the coolant that originally came in our cars from the factory. Looking at the closeness of the VW-Audi-Porsche working relationship, who am I to argue.
The only thing to complain about is the dealer price.

I'm about to change the antifreeze in my car to plain jane coolant. I know it is not suggested, but my step-dad works at an exotic car garage (Ferraris, lambos, etc) and he said they don't run into any problems using it in those engines.
I don't know if it will make any difference. Both the 944 engine and the ferrari engines are all aluminum, however I'm not sure if the turbocharger makes it nessesary to run the other coolant.

The coolant need to be phosphate and silica free because of the silicium/aluminium alloy which the engine is made off.
The VW/Audi pink G12 is free for both of these minerals. Which mean it is good to use.
Regular coolant however, will corrode the engine internally.

good luck getting this one answered... i have posted this question to this forum and to the turbo forum, and no one seems to know for sure. the blue coolant is clearly labelled as containing silicates. the pink coolant does not. however, everyone seems all afraid of the pink stuff saying that it should never be put in a car more than 3 years old and that if it mixes with any other kind of coolant "bad things" happen.
I'm running the blue and have been for a couple months. my car runs hot, but i think that has more to do with the oil in the radiator...
good luck...

I've been using the pink VW coolant in my engine after aking the question here. I got a replay that said it was OK. I also have an audi that I have used the ultra expensive coolant in that I wa going to change to the VW stuff nest time I service the system.

The blue stuff is regular coolant, sulfate free.
The pink stuff is the new 100,000 mile coolant that doesn't need flushing. You DON'T want to mix them.
I would save my money and get the blue. The pink will leak and evap before 100k
