I just put a really simple chat server on-line - which doesn't require massive Java download to your browser. It has only a few rudimentary features (color choices, a few smilies, etc..) - but I have no idea what folks want for features (I'm not a regular "chat" person )..

Anyway - you can hit it here for now:

If there is interest - yes, I can upgrade it - but I thought the simpler - the better to begin with...

john maybe you should think about starting a channel on one of the many well established IRC servers that are around (or if you have a spare server start your own IRC server)

if you stick with the web based irc you should see if you can make a list of people who are currently in the channel

I agree.. At the same time, I want to keep it really simple for folks to use - without all the "overhead" associated with the more complex chat clients..? Anyway - let me take a look, as it's the first pass, and I don't really know what folks want for "features" (I like the list of users in the chat areas..!! I think I can hack that in pretty easily...)...

Virtual beer me thinks.. the client looks nice- can that be ported to Microsoft chat? I am not a huge chat user at all, but after last night there may indeed be a calling. I have been on the P*&^can chat and its pretty lame sometimes over there. I'm not casting stones- the advice here is better and it would be nice to have a quick BS session sometimes. Im wrapping a few last things here, then ths servers go down for a while..

Do you think by having the chat, that will detract from the forum traffic? Or is that what you want, to free up some bandwidth on the forums?

John, I've got another freeware client that you might be able to get some stuff out of to use with this one. It is an ASP client. Like some other people said, it allows you to see who is in the room. Let me know.
