Default why do i keep nuking fuses

my #7 fuse keeps blowing, this one controls the radio, cig lighter, interior lights and clock. it is an 8 amp fuse.

this has never happened before today and it blew two fuses so far today. i havent bothered replacing the current blown one.

cig lighter is disabled. rear interior light fell apart last night, could the wires touching the body cause a fuse to blow?

Yes. I'd say that's the cause right there.

You might also look at the glove box light.. I know in later model cars they are on the same circuit and I invariable blow the fuse when I pull the glove box.

you have a short .. here is what to do .....

if it blows every time it is easy to fix.
disconnect battery ( to be safe )

get a multimeter and set it to Ohms ( resistance. ) put one lead on the cold side of the fuse conectiom ( not the side supplying power ) put the other lead on any good ground. it will probab;y read zero or very close to it , There is not enough resistance to stop the fuse from blowing , usually cause by a wire going directly to the body.
Just disconect wires in the circuit until you see the resistance go up. Once it does this is your culprit.

Well, fixing the interior light would be a good start. It's broken, and has power all the time on one of the circuits, and it's on the right fuse, is a common source of blowing fuses... you might not need the Scooby gang to solve this mystery.

There was a tech bulletin to fix this BTW... simple rewire by swapping the hot and ground wires on the light... problem is a hot wire that touches a re-enforcement in the dash.. swap them and fuse stops blowing...
