Rich,
The O2 sensor compares the exhaust to the outside air to generate a voltage. It gets it's reference air (or fresh air) thru the wiring harness. One would think not a lot of air gets thru the wiring harness but enough does. No holes on the outside as this could let in contaminents.

You can read about the connector on Bosch's website as well as how a O2 sensor works. They also talk about the reference air.

The Bosch 15725 universal is $91.00 before taxes at NAPA. $96.55 at Lordco, and of course, $175.00 from Weissach, only they include the pigtail.

(CDN$$ BTW)

Looks like I'm off to NAPA! Hopefully I can have it in before bedtime!

OKAY! with the money I saved on the 02 sensor, I picked up some H4's too!!! I still have the dismal (at best) Sylvana's on my 951. Needed to change that!

all only $220 after taxes for both! Car is cooling off so I don't burn myself while taking out the old o2 sensor! Hmm I wonder if I can use the harnesses that came with the sensor!??!?

Mmm... H4's! I have them on my 912 and they're awesome! Make the headlights on the 924S look like candles in comparison...
