Default thinking of trading my car for an 1990 944S (?)

if you haven't seen my earlier thread, I found metal dust shavings in my 85.5 944. However it still runs good with no problems yet and I have spent a ton of money on it, new clutch etc over the past 3 years and want to get rid of it before it needs a new motor.

anyways found a local car dealer claiming they have a 1990 S and want to go look at it tomorrow price is 5900 cdn.

I want to trade in my 944 plus cash but they probably won't give me much for my 944 has a dent in the rear qurater panel also but don't really care at this point.

so was there even a 944S in 1990?

1990's is the S2's years. I think the 944 S stopped at 88, but I'm probably wrong. S2 was from 89-91

thats odd then maybe its an S2 the dealer price is 5900 which would be real cheap for an S2.

he says he has the paper work for it and it is a 1990.

i'm looking to trade in my 85 for it but I bet they won't pay me very much for my 85, dent int he quarter and leaking power steering.

Usually best to sell a car like yours on your own. Only benefit are sometimes tax deals for trading in.

$5.9k CDN is about right for an S2 these days.

really? I see 944 s2s here advertised more than that in private listings like 10-12k locally...

yeah tif I trade in my 944 i'll probably get like 1k off that price lol.

but yeah i'm worried about my 944 motor blowing up soon so I want to get rid of it asap. I found some metal dust/ shavings in my oil so I want to get rid of it before problems occur.

my car has a ton of new parts, brakes, tires, of new clutch, low milliage torque tube, fuel lines, coolant hoes, radiator, belts, water pump, oil seals etc which cost me a lot of money.

my car is overall in good condition but it has a dent in the rear quarter panel which I think will make it harder to sell.

As you know service records are everything with these cars. When were the timing and balance shaft belts changed? Any seal leaking? Ball joints are not replaceable ( there are kits ) but you could be looking at $400 a side for control arms. Does it have the original rubber center clutch?

So, buyer beware and seek a PPI, at a shop of your choice, if you are really interested in it. That goes for a carfax also.

As they say, nothing is as expensive as a cheap Porsche.

P.S. I do love my 90 S2.

thanks for the info.

and yes having owned my 944 for over 3 years now I know how expensive they can be. The s2 will probably need new belts and water pump and front end maintenance done so that would be added to the price plus like you said everything else like new brakes, ball joints, hoses etc will add up fast.

my 944 is going ot need a new motor soon though so i'm not sure if its worth fixing it (putting a new motor in) or getting a new car.

my 944 has a new clutch kit installed so i'd reuse that on the used motor, and tons of other new parts, control arms, brakes, fuel lines, all coolant hoses, rad, tires.

i'll go look at the s2 tom though and see what kind of condition it is in. at 5900 from the dealer I highly doubt its going to be in mint condition, i'm guessing its going to have faded paint, not so perfect interior and in need of lot of maintenance.

if it is real nice then I might may consider as doing an engine swap on my 944 when the motor dies is going to cost a lot and the s2 is going to be a nicer car.

$5900 for an S2 is a steal in Canada.

Open the hood, the engine will tell the tale if its really an S2 or not.

yeah i'm going to go look at it right now....... I suspect something isn't right like it isn't a 1990 s2.

I've seen dealer adds before that advertised porsches like a 928 as an S4 model when it was a 1980 model. the guy on the phone said he has the paper work for it and it is a 1990 and S model.
