Question where do 0-60 times come from?

I've always been curious about why cars that seem evenly matched turn in odd 0-60 times.

Take a modded 951 vs. a 360 Modena.

Ferrari: heavier (or about the same) with 400HP and 276 lb-ft. 0-60 in 4.0 sec

951: there are some cars people have that put down 350+ HP to the wheels, and have more torque than the Ferrari, yet I've never seen anyone give 0-60 times at the 4.0 mark.

What is it about the Ferrari that makes it faster to 60? gearing? That seems strange given that the top speed is also really high. Does Ferrari make cars with low gears for hitting 60 quick, and then tall gears for those high high top speeds? Maybe I'm missing something, but I've always been curious about that. What's keeping the 951 from being a 4.0 sec car?

I'm not into 0-60 speeds. I would never mod a car just to get mine down that low, and I don't plan on even buying a g-tech and doing clutch-thrashing 1/4 mile runs. ever. I think that's missing the point, I'm just curious about it.

Thanks!

Traction
Drive line flex
weight transfer -susp. geometry
-damper forces

And it's not how much power you make, it's where you make it

This is when tidal forces on Earth are greatest which reduces lag and transfers torque to the rear wheels most effectively.

Where's the in-depth tech lesson. Was it THAT stupid of a question?

I didn't expect more from you, G96. That's about par for the course

Realistically, the 360 is an awesome machine. Over the 951 it has: traction control, mid-engine (ideal for launching) and a biggie, no turbo lag! Not to mention the F1 shifting, what's that, .003 of a second between gears? Our cars suffer 0-60 because of the lag..I'm not telling you turbo pilots anything you don't already know.

I know a bud with a 951 who liked to race..(tisk tisk) but had a catch..he wanted a rolling, 20MPH start.."to save the clutch" he would say. He beat some strong machines that way. Off the line, adios.. you can only play catch up so much.

I never said this!

There's a big difference between a car you pay over 150k for and one that would, even new, sell for maybe 10 to 15k more than the Boxster. I'm sure you could mod the heck out of the Boxster for an additional 15 - 20k and put about the same hp down and still not turn in the times.

When your demanding that much mulla for your mule there's no need to hold back on engineering. It's the complete package like Luke said mixed in with Danno's Pink Floyd dark side. The entire car was built with the idea of haulin' *** from the time the first sketches were drawn right on down to when Enzo's buddy Sivocci designed the training wheels. Which, by the way they all did only on a new moon in the year of the dog.

I'm certianly not saying that Porsche doesn't do it, look at the 959. They just didn't build the 944 series to do that.
