Default When You're Fog Lights Quit Working...

Just noticed last night (first time to drive the car late at night in a while) that my fog lights don't work. In fact, the little green light on the switch in the cockpit doesn't even come on with the lights in the 'on' position. My 15A fuse in slot 5 is OK - how do you check that G11 relay with the #53 on it to make sure it's working properly? Would the fact that the light on the switch doesn't come on lead me in a specific direction?

Where does one start when tracking down this issue? I've searched the forum and come up empty on this one...

I've been searching for 30 minutes trying to find a related thread to start troubleshooting this - I have no clue...

Start by looking at the wiring diagrams for your car. If you don't have them or don't know how to read them, it's almost impossible to figure out your car.

That said, the G11 relay is pretty easy to test. Put power and ground to pins 85 and 86, and check for continuity with an ohmmeter between 30 and when you hear the relay click.

I have attached a pdf of the pertinent wiring diagram for your USA foglight wiring.

I hate to ask, but have you checked the bulbs? I had both of my driving lights on a different car blow within a week. They get exactly equal run-time, right?

I think you can swap out the relay in G2 (Ignition 15) with G11 to see if your lights work.

Cheers,

So apparently there was just something loose...I pulled the covers off...took the bulbs out and reseated them (they looked OK) and pulled the fuses and relay out and reseated those as well. Now it started working again...

Here's a question though - is there anyway to get the fog's and the pop-ups on at the same time? My fogs only come on with the light switch on the first position.

ah, that must be it - i always leave them on...

Is there anyway to tweak the system so that even with high beams on the fogs stay on?

as long as the fog lights are toggled on and the light switch is on, they're on.

if the fogs are toggled on and the light switch is off, you can't blip the fogs with the turn signal stalk.

Mine don't. First position on the light switch, they are on. If I click the 'parking lot' switch off - they go off.

If I leave the switch on and leave the lights on high beam and move the light switch to the second position so that the lights pop-up - the parking lights turn off.

if you have the high beams on the fogs will turn off. If you dont have the lights on the fogs will stay on in the parking light position. Most cars are like this.
