Default 87 944 NA at bank auction

I'm thinking about picking it up, if I can for cheap. The good - interior in good shape, script seats, script door handles. $4000 or so in receipts in recent work, including a new cylinder head. Recent paint. Clutch feels good, but no paperwork in being replaced. Looks to have been well cared for. The bad - 225,000 miles when the odometer quit working. The paint on the right side quarter panel has something funky going on, looks like it got messed up while being painted. Also has a small dent behind LR wheel.

Before I went and looked at it, I thought I could maybe make a quick buck. The mileage is what scares me. I had thought maybe $500 tops, but I'm thinking less now. No desire to part it out, but the seats and door handles alone are probably worth several hundred bucks. Sadly the dash, while not cracked, is warped.

So, I'm just wondering if anyone has tried doing anything like this in this market, and has any anecdotal experiences to share?

I can't comment on bank car auctions but a buddy just picked up this 30" sailboat for $250 at a boat auction. He sailed it home.

Well, nothing happened. It was car number 100 out of approximately 120. As I had to take my kids with me (4 y/o twin girls), I didn't want to be there all day. So I went by yesterday, they told me they go in order, no mention of lanes or anything like that. Great, I can hang out for a while, and let the girls sleep in.

Turns out that they ran two lanes at the beginning. Cars numbered 0-86 in lane A, and 87 and up in lane B.

By the time I got there, lane A was on car number 49, and B was empty. Not knowing how it worked, I waited. They went from car 86 to 130, with nothign in between, and around more cars past that. Only then did I find out how they ran things. Wasted morning.

I did, however, find out that the car didn't meet its reserve. They were not at liberty to disclose that to anyone other than the high bidder, or disclose with the highest bid was. Regardless, I doubt that it would have sold for a price low enough for me to chance it, so I don't anticipate I'll be going back, at least for this one.

I wouldn't pay more than $500 to $750 tops for the car if you are hoping to flip it. Just went through this myself and just barely kept my shirt

I only took $300 with me. I figure I can probably sell it fast for $1000. And $500 isn't worth it for the hassle. But, if it has a reserve on it, it probably would need to get a lot higher to even get sold. I'm thinking I'll be passing.

Turns out that it isn't entirely a bank auction. They have them a couple of times a month. Some are repos, others are not - not sure of the source, some are consignment. But, there was a pretty nice 996 Cab there, and there have been Boxsters. There was also a 69 Vette.
