Default Paint for crank scraper?

I just bought a non-teflon coated crank scraper and it has a bit of corrosion on it! Should I scuff off the corrosion and coat it with some paint or am I just being too OCD about this? If so, what kind of paint would be appropriate?

Don't paint anything that comes in direct contact with hot oil. It will fail from heat and the flakes could restrict the oil pickup. A little rust won't effect the scraper at all but if you insist just wire brush any loose rust off and install it. Any rust on it is probably just a rust bloom from sitting in a shed.
