On the 944 1989 turbo the key entry on the hatch turns but doesn't open. No clicking on the turn. The inside release works fine. The fuses all seem to be OK. Any suggestions on how to fix the key for the hatch?

I think there is a micro switch behind the key latch.

 

Ditto, the turning of the key activates some sort of electrical switch, which in turn starts the motor that starts cycling the release mechanism.

I've had some success spraying electrical cleaner on the mechanisms just behind the key.

 

Could the tumbler part be bad ?
