Default Wierd dust shavings?

On my 944 1989 turbo I jacked up the right side to check the rear brakes. I noticed the rear shocks when they were seperated from the jack had a pile of redish dust/rubberish on the shock. I guess these are the original shocks. They are yellow shocks...i think Koni?

Is this dust/shavings a sign of trouble? Are the shocks going bad? Please comment.

Sounds like the rubber bumpers may have come to the end of their useful lives... IIRC I had the same thing on mine.
