From my experiences if you have an 85.5 you will need a 1/4 inch spacer in the front to allow the center caps to fit in the wheels but the back ones should fit straight up.
Unless the 85.5 is different from the 1988 or the 16 inch Boxter rims have a different offset then the 17 inch 996 sport classics I have on my car.

Sorry guys, these are late offset wheels going on an early offset car (regardless of whether early '85 or 85.5 it is still early offset). You will need spacers to run these properly.

^^^ yep, sucks... I have an '86 which I love, but theyr'e early offset and wheel choice is very limited without spacers

Spacers are not all that bad. Just buy some good ones and all is well. I run late offset on my '86 and early phones. I think its great being able to swap back and forth.

ive got 7mm spacers, but my wheels may not be as thick as yours. wheel enhancement, performance products, and my tire shop all say i am fine with the stock studs, but i want to get longer ones in there for my mental well being...
anyone know how long the stock studs are anyway?

Mine are bolt on hub centric spacers. So no, longer studs are not necessary. As others have mentioned depending on the type of spacers they are necessary. I like mine and have had no problems with them thus far. Just make sure that they are torqued properly.
