Post Power Steering Pump

Greetings once again.

Couple of quick items.

1. Is there a power steering pump rebuild kit? Someone rebuilds these, so where do they get the kits?
2. If it leaks out the top seal (right under the pulley), is it possible to fix?
3. Were you aware that after you replace a steering component that you are supposed to replace the reservoir? Apparently there is a horsehair filter that cannot be cleaned in the bottom of the reservoir. I never heard of that, and was just wondering if that was true.

Thanks again for the incredible power of this list.

T.

It has been a while since I did mine, but I got a seal kit and resealed my pump. The seal kit was tough to find, but I got it from a guy named Jessie at 760-202-9990 for like 40.00 plus shipping. I think he is a distributor that just helped me out on the side. Resealing the pump is fairly easy, mine was leaking and sucking air (groaning) through the input shaft seal.

Yes they do... from the article:

"The part number of the rebuild kit you'll need to tackle this job (certainly in the case of 944 and 944S2; we believe the 944S has a slightly different unit) is 928 347 921 01."

So answering your questions:

1. Yes. See above. I am positive you can find it for less than US$40.00 Skip??
2. All seals are included in the kit... so unless there is a fracture/crack in the housing, I will guess that you can fix it.
3. Yes. There is a filter inside and you will need to replace the canister. Not that expensive.

I hope this helps.

I have just spoken to my OPC on the strength of that article and they deny a rebuild kit is available. It is a different pump on the S as well, bloody typical.

Exclamation

I just gotta post this for the benifit of you Rennlist guys.

I ordered a 'rebuild' kit based on the 928 part number. I had a leaky pump (leaking from between the halfs) which also tended to vary the pressure.
After rebuilding (which was VERY easy), pump works perfectly, including several track days.

Best of all....
I ordered ONE rebuild kit.

THEY SENT ME TEN! <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />
So.... I've got nine left.

I'll sell them for $10+shipping...
First Come, First Serve.
(very easy to ship... probably can ship them in a CD shipping package...)

Once again... this is the "928 347 921 01"
Should work on all 924/944/968/928 pumps.

I'll get some pictures of them up asap.

I am not certain, but I would think the 944S kit is the same as the others - the only difference as far as I can tell is the PS fluid pressure sensor addition to the S pump. Could be wrong... I'll try to find out for sure.

Heheheh.. that's what I'm thinking too. I'll keep an extra set or two for myself. Maybe in the future these will become impossible to find, thereby inflating my retirement fund

I'll be sending everyone an update today... Sorry about the delay.. I'm not going to be back 'home' until tonight...
