Appreciating the finer things doesn't stop at the cars, right?

Sounds awesome!
I've had to settle for a nice pair of Sennheiser and Grado headphones, since I have no room for my gear at work or at home. I had a nice set of Tannoy monitors and an old Marantz amp before, I love the old amps.
My boss had a full blown McIntosh setup with a pair of '70s JBL 4545 studio monitors at his place. Those things would peel paint off the walls.
I'm a sucker for old audio gear.

Oh my god every time I feel guilty about the money I've spent on my system or think it's the **** I'll just remember Steve's dad's. I think I've got a pretty damn good, best sound for the money at about $3500 (and that stretches the teacher budget), but just to give everybody some perspective the retail on that Rockport turntable alone is $75 large. As a speaker builder I loved seeing all the shots of his. Siiick is right. The best money can buy, but yet he has clearly chosen the components that he likes very carefully. I have about the same musical interests, too, typical audiophile combination.

I like my quad electrostatic speakers with quad 405 amp paired with linn turntable and nakamichi dragon. Old technology, but still the best transparent sounding setup for non powered instruments, classical, and vocals. Krell monoblocks will be the next item with maybe stax electrostatics. The 10k price tag for each of the monoblocks keeps me from getting them though....rather spend it on my 951s for now.

His systems are downright silly! Beautiful craftsmanship!!
When I was growing up, I had a neighbor who was big into building amps and speakers. He was a THX certified engineer and built several of the sytems in Omnimax theaters in the Midwest.
At his home, he had built all custom stuff in a soundproof floating theater. The rear walls were filled with 16 36" woofers, mids galore, and ribbon tweaters on the sides and front sound stages. It was beyond impressive. I can recall watching star wars on lazer disc, on his huge theater screen one afternoon, and to this day, I have not experienced anything like it.

In the P-car:
Clarion HDX-10 Tuner/CD player, no internal amp, dual 24 bit DACs
Sony 45wpc Amp (just plain clean!)
JBL 4" Mids w/kevar cones and butyl surrounds in stock location
Vifa-ScanSpeak Tweets up above window switches ala 968s
Need to build that sub--desperately!
