They still offer them. If you go with Kicker subs, do not port them. Kicker Solos are ment for a sealed box.
As far as the boxes, they are tight. Very good construction, no vibration, and they happen to have the perfect volume (.33cu/ft) for a Kicker 8". Make sure you have a good amount of juice going to the subs. Too little and they sound muddy because of their small size.

Wow some killer systems on here!! Some of you who are audio enthusiasts should visit <a href="http://www.hometheaterspot.com" target="_blank">www.hometheaterspot.com</a> which is a forum like rennlist only for audio enthusiasts like myself. My current system is:

RE: Bose. There's a reason why the name Bose never appears in audiophile literature, with the exception of negative comments or a statement on how innovative the 805s (?) were in the '70s.
For good deals on a lot of high end but not that expen$ive audio gear, including Sennheiser and Grado cans, check out <a href="http://www.audioadvisor.com" target="_blank">audioadvisor</a> 's clearance and demo section. If you know your manufacturers well, check out the used and demo gear at <a href="http://www.saturdayaudio.com" target="_blank">Saturday Audio in Chicago</a> , or at a high end dealer near you. Like Porschephiles, audiophiles constantly want to upgrade, which means there's a plethora of lightly used, well-cared for gear out there. If you do audiophilia smart, you can do it cheap.
RE: Surround sound. I regularly have people who listen to my system looking for my surround speakers. Outstanding 2 channel audio can give you soundstage depth beyond your average 5.1 system, with much greater musicality. Movies with great music soundtracks are unreal on my system, but a bomb going off isn't. High end SuperAudio surround sound is another story...
Which brings me to my last point

The new high resolution digital formats really blow away CDs, even HDCDs, also MDs (which use the CD standard 44.1 khz sample rate) and especially MP3s. If you've ever heard the difference between a studio master and its CD, you get the idea. If you haven't listened carefully to SuperAudio or DVD Audio, give it a shot, though the audiophile literature generally regards the SuperAudio/DSD format the best.
