I work at a dealer and this hasn't gone into effect yet should be monday. But we ( the dealer) have to destroy the engine and tranny for the car and titled it salvage non returning to the road. As it being a government thing it's rules changes every 30 min of every passing day. Last I heard was we no have to destroy the motor by draining the oil pouring in sum water and sulfur or something to "concrete" the block.

To me this is a very crazy idea what is it going to be a few years from now a limited amount of v8's and ton of Prius's battery junk running around!!!!!

You have to go by the estimates on the fuel .gov sight NOTHING ELSE.

Even tho I am not a fan of the good o'd v8 we still should not dispose of them is way racer can use this to build up new track engines!!!

Sorry for the slight venting ....

i think it would be interesting to actually pour concrete into the engine lol.

or pour water in, and then pour cement dust and aggregate into the block and then crank it over to mix...lol

haha...or see what would really happen if you tried to beadblast an intake tract with the engine running (like the honda forum tuner of legend haha)

I mean, we know it would kill the engine, but what would go first? gummed up valves cause valvetrain failure? loss of compression due to cylinder walls getting hosed? something else? hahaha

I am wondering on how many 928's got turned in on this. The 944s' do not qualify but the 928 does as well as the most 911's LOL.
Has anyone heard of one yet?

Also the motor has to be destroyed by the sodium mixture but the car can be parted out. That means that the dealers with these cars will only be in them around $50 (scrap value) HUM....... It would probably be worth following the car to the scrap yard..... Man Lucky 928 owners LOL....

I really don't get this legislation. I guess if it worked in Europe with similar rules, it will work here, but I wouldn't think there are many people in the market for a new car who already happened to have a low mileage beater worth nothing that they've owned for over a year. I mean, either you need (or can only afford) a $2,000 dollar sh!tbox that gets 15mpg or you need a new $30k prius. For whom would one be a substitute for the other??

It's a gift to the Big 3; mostly the situation is as you describe. Not many folks driving an old Caddy are suddenly going to buy a brand new econocar. But there are millions of old trucks that qualify, that have minimal pollution controls and worn out engines, many of them are contractor trucks. The local Ford dealer is OUT OF STOCK!!! I can't believe it, in a period of 4 - 5 days, his truck lot is bare! These aren't the kind of guys who would even think of buying a Tundra or Titan.

Like it or not, it will get a bunch of ****ty old trucks off the road.

Is there anything in the bill that says how long you have to keep the car? Seems like a guy could flip a car and make a few bucks...
