Looked at the Mother of all Porsches today
Went to Crescent City to pick up a couple of parts and they had a GT2 sitting in the showroom. Absolutely incredible. The ceramic brakes on that car are a true work of art. No they're better than a work of art they're...............I don't know what they are but color me impressed.
Guys, I've seen Murcialago's, F50's, TT's, Techarts, Ruf Yellow Birds etc. but I've never seen a driving environment like this car. It just has that feeling of a completely thoughtful opportunity for mass quantities of speed.

My local dealership had a GT2 on the showroom floor recently. I agree with your assessment. That thing looks fast when it's standing still!
Sometimes I wonder if Porsche is still making cars that will be collectible in the future, ala the 1973 911 RS. Of the current lineup, this one has the most potential to be prized for the long term. Too bad they are $180k!

I sat in one last saturday at Anderson Behel Porsche here in Nor Cal. $208k
My wife was sitting in a 996 carrera cab and seeing that the salesman was hovering over me, she promptly strolled over. First thing out of her mouth was....I can think of better things to do with our money.
The salesmans immediate responce "Yeah, but if you got the money why not"
I could not have said it better.

I thought everyone here lit their stogies with Grants and Benjamins too. For 180K I'd pick up a 2 or 3 at that price.

I have a friend who works at Porsche and has ridden in just about every car they make (and with factory test drivers to boot).
His comments on the GT2 were something like..."people who get GT2s thinking they will be daily drivers are in for a shock...the only reason to get this car is to track it....it is very extreme....the ceramic brakes are incredible, but they make a hellacious screaming noise until warmed up....the suspension is totally unforgiving....makes 030 seem mild by comparison...a very rough ride."
He said that given the choice, he'd take a 996TT with X50 power kit. He said "blasting through Stuttgart from stoplight to stoplight in the 996TT was like skipping stones across the water...we were flying from light to light...with the TT, you get the power and daily drivability."
But still, the GT2 is undeniably awesome. If you want the most extreme Porsche (this side of Carrera GT), that is it.

I saw 2 the other day... at the factory. You guys should travel a bit more. I know it isn't every day that you see a gt car or a nice turbo... oh yeah, it is. I miss seeing big beast trucks and things like that. I'm really getting bored with all of these bmws, vws, mercedes, porsches & ferraris. I mean, that is all you see here, along with the freaking french cars. Anyway, i keep getting interrupted and can't remember where i was going with this.

My wife took me into the showroom. She want's me to get a new car. While I was there, I could not resist sitting in the GT2. I agree with Sean, a 996 TT would be the one to get for a driver. And I definitely do not light my cigars with benjamins.
The 996 Carrara's are interesting though. Who knows.
If I did get a new car, she would want me to stop tinkering and do something like take her dancing instead.

My first GT2 sighting was in September. I was traveling to Montana for a friends wedding. Pulled in at a rest area in middle of nowhere eastern Washington for a nap. When I awoke (only an hour or so) saw a really nice silver 996 sitting next to me. Didn't think anything of it (it is the middle of nowhere @ 6:30AM). So pull back on the freeway and continue cruising (80mph). Then I look in the rearview and see the 996 coming.....quick. Like a commercial, two flashes of the turn signal, lane change, blows past me (engine howling) around probably 130-140. Catch the GT2 badge as he went by and dissappeared into the rising sun. That 15 seconds made the whole 1600 mile trip worthwile.
