Question 944 Headlight Conversion

Who sells the headlight conversion units that replace the pop-ups with a lexon covered square headlight? There were some on e-bay not too long ago. Also has anyone had any experience with these?
TIA - Dave

I am looking for the source also. I've become so fed up with my headlight motor difficulties! Keep me posted.

But I'm sure that you were just kidding, Danno (as I hold you in the highest regard and feel that you are the true source of all-knowing for anything 944/951).

I want to go this route as well. Rage2 has this set up and it looks very good. Everyone talks about how the lighting with this kit is "less-than-adequate", but I don't drive much at night so the aesthetics and weight-savings alone appeals to me (plus the cool retro 924GT look that my car would have with my vented 924GT/931 nose panel).
The clear lenses and buckets are all that you can buy (ala GT racing). The rest of it you have to fabricate. Apparently a 83-84 rabbit/jetta headlight and adjusters works well with these parts. I hope to do this in the spring and offer a detailed write up on the process.

I bid on the ones on ebay....but when it got up into the hundreds I said 'screw it'....I can buy a lot of replacement parts ( between ebay and Hershey) to keep the pop-ups working for $100.

Thanks for the info, does seem a little pricey the one from GT Racing gets up to about $300.00. I'll probably look around some more.

I just like the look and the weight saving, the 944 is used primarily for DE.

Well no... I'm actually looking for a rectangular headlight conversion that looks like this...

<img src="http://www.gururacing.net/ImagesMisc/MitsuHeadlights.jpg" alt=" - " />

Pops up halfway for a half-height rectangular lens. Like those used on the Geo Storm or '91-94 Camaro...

Besides being more aero, they would give the car a little more sinister look... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I bought the covers from GT racing and made the headlight mounts myself. I bought the bucket/adjuster assemlies from the junkyard. There was no difference in lighting between the standard round lights and the rectangular lights, they both sucked. Good luck. I like the look of the stationary lights myself.

Yikes, folks. Does anyone have pictures? 'Cause the ones on that first site were butt ugly. Sounds like 300ZX gonna horribly wrong...

At least wait until you smash the front end up or something...

Does the headlight washers still work for the car when you replace then without the pop up headlights?? I would think that the washers would over shoot the flat ones.
