There's one for sale nearby, only $200 CDN, not running. But I'm sure there's LOTS of parts that I could sell, and make more than my money back.. are '77 parts interchangeable with later models? Do any of you guys need 924 parts?? I'm just wondering what the demand is here, if I could make any cash...

Rich,

Heck yeah. You would probably make most of your $$ back just sellling the alloys. Then the lenses, windows, etc., etc. As far as parts interchangebility, cosmetic items and body panels should fit all the first-gen. 924s(thru 82)--there are probably interior pieces that fit the pre-86 944s. Mechanically, it probably has the 4 spd. and a disk/drum brake combo. Should have the 2.0 Audi-derived engine, which was pretty much unchanged (I think there was a compression bump between 77 and 77.5 models my memory is foggy) Either way, 200 Canadian for a 924 is a good deal--heck I would buy it, even if it just sat in my yard as a planter.

Hey Rich, you are in BC, yes? Does this putative 924 have a Euro front bumper? What color is it? Rear valence(SP)?

Since I'm looking into a Beetle right now, I know that there's a HUGE market for the 924 running gear in the VW community - you could certainly make money off parting this one out... Just up to you on wether you have the time, and want to spend it dismantling a car.

I can tell you exactly... I parted out a 79 last year down to the frame. $1500 - $2000. No easy task though.. but the things you learn in the process are well worth it.

lol, I paid $200 for mine also.. but it came with a 84 944 that I am restoring. Parking garage cars that were covered in so much dirt you couldnt tell what the color was. The actual deal was I got the 944 for $200 but I had to take the 924 out of there also.

I went and bought a 924 for USD700.00. Parting it is always an option and one I will consider if I find that the frame isn't straight. I would *love* to stick a 951 engine/trans etc. in there, but I have to check things first.

As far as using parts the for a 944, there are a few things, but not much I would use. Things that are usable for an early 944 are: windscreen, seats, dashboard, hood, windows/back hatch, fuse relay board, lights, etc. I'm not into it because a lot of the stuff is way old and not very new looking. kinda like going backwards.

I found another 924 here in No. Calif for around USD1000.00 It's actually worth only USD500.00 as it doesn't even run. They are fun to tinker on, but not fun to spend much money on. Driving the 944 is such a relief after driving the 924. So much more power. Post the same question on the 924board.org and see what they say (!)..

I do this with the 944 cars easy money plus you will learn a lot if you can fix it without spending a lot then fix it and sell it as a running car. Ebay is good for selling parts but they are starting to charge an arm and a leg on all there fees.

You know, I have this thread over at 924board.org tyring to figure out the differences between the crossmembers on the 944 and 924. You guys have any knowledge about this? Are the mounting points similar enough for an engine swap? I haven't had the time to put both cars up on jack stands and take measurements.

A <a href="http://www.ddurrelltech.com/pcar/crossmem_dim/" target="_blank">crossmember document</a> I made up.
