Wow- might have just posted in wrong thread- Yes, I'm paid & ready to go- thanks again for doing this for us!!!

I'm going to modify the IceShark alternator to starter cable to fit this starter- several people need it done already & I'm sure others who are buying these starters will want the cables, so I'm glad to be able to jump in on another group buy. Would love a few more to jump in for slightly more savings, but not sure how much dif it would really make, so am happy w/it as it is.

This starter sounds like it'll help a few issues & putting it together w/newer, safer, battery cables, etc, should make for a nice improvement in several areas. Plus, saving 2-3lbs over stock is always welcomed... Now I just need for someone to find us a really nice, easy to install, reasonably priced, lightweight, high output alternator to complete this area :-)

thanks again,
Robby

Robby, I sourced the alternator for my application from Quality Power, you might try giving them a call or dropping them an email.

In my case, I didn't need an OEM replacement configuration because I'm moving the alternator to the rear of the car and driving it off of the axle (I also fabbed a custom drive pulley that slips over the inner CV joint).

But the guys at QP were very responsive and helped me source a very nice 160 amp lightweight and compact starter. They have a lot of options available, and I'm sure they'd be able to help us find a suitable replacement for the OEM alt on the 944.

It was good enough for this Factory D-Prod 924:

I've had a lot of naysayers telling me it won't work for me too. Obviously, not a good thing for a daily driver type of vehicle. But for a track car, even with limited and very strategically planned street use (which my car will be), I think it's feasible. Anyway, I'm going to find out, the hard way if I have to. If it doesn't work, I'll go back to crank-driven. Should be fun to see what happens. I'm also planning a dual battery setup (with an isolation circuit) so that I can strategically section up which accessories draw from which battery.

Here are pix of my alternator and my custom one-off pulley. The larger custom pulley is lighter than the smaller drive pulley that shipped with the alt!

One more thing...I would be remiss if I didn't mention that my car like the D-Prod is running a G31+LSD gearbox. After noodling over my mounting arrangement for the alt, I can see where configuring something similar on an Audi-based gearbox might be a bit more...challenging...

Nice! Sounds like you've tried some interesting things. How's the G31 working out?

I can make about any type of battery cable or ground that you would want. I don't have acess to a 2.0L 924, but I can still make them if you can get me the length & possibly another detail or two, depending on specific cable. I can make about anything from 4/0awg to 8awg & actually have many parts for 2/0awg to 6awg ready to go & it's easy to order for other sizes if need-be...

I have a few questions & ideas that are probably a bit OT, so I'm about to e-mail you...

Oh, did you weigh your new vs old alternator? I've found stock to be ~15.5lbs & have seen comparable aftermarket units that may work, down to ~11lbs. Then an aluminum bracket- Evil-944T can make anything like that & does great work. I've nickled & dimed ~150lbs off my car & it's still a full interior street car w/probably an extra 20lbs of sound deadening (I'm very specific in what I'm trying to do) & I've got another 50lbs or so to drop before doing anything serious... IF only I can get my intermittent no-start prob fixed...
