Default Cruise control: missing resistor?

So my cruise control makes a clicky noise whenever it's plugged in. When I bought it the cable was already disconnected so who knows how long the cruise control hasn't worked for. So i found the clarks garage instructions on how to fix the computer. But looking at the board, it's like there's a missing resistor or something! See picture below, I circled the area in red.

The strange thing on mine is it didn't look like it had previously been taken apart... How much would you want for the cruise control box? Does it work completely?

Default Cruise control board

I realize that this is an ancient thread, however, since I'm currently working on the same cruise control board for my 968, here's a little more info:

persept,
that missing component is supposed to be missing and if you look one row down and a bit to the right, you will see that there's another missing component. Mine is the same. 1993 968.

Those two blue electrolytics in the upper left are 2.2uf 63v. Mine tested as 1.8uf and 1.4uf so both appear to be bad. The other three caps (silver cans) all tested ok for me. The blue caps are available from digikey for about $1.50ea. With delivery, it cost me $5.40 for the pair.

In a few days, I'll know if this repair worked. My clutch switch tested fine, I reconditioned the servo with no effect. I have LED's in the 3rd brake light, but the other brake lights are incandescents so hopefully that's a non-issue.

cheers,
c

Here's my board. I swapped caps and the cruise still doesn't work. Keep us posted on your progress. I'm very interested!

Default Not fixed, but something interesting happened...

I soldered in the 2 new caps yesterday and re-installed the original 3 that tested ok. I left the box dangling from the cables because those mounting studs are a major PITA to reach. I sped around the neighborhood to see if I could get it to engage. The manual says 35mph min speed, but IIRC it always needed to be going around 45 or more to engage in the past. NOTHING.

But then today, I had to go somewhere and I hadn't gotten around to pulling the computer back out. I was going about 70 and for grins I pushed the engage lever. I didn't get the usual 2-3mph surge that I always get on this car and the previous one (89 944), so I thought that it didn't work. Then I took my foot of the gas and it maintained 70 perfectly! It kept going for probably 90 seconds, then it dropped-out and I wasn't able to get it to engage again. So while it's still broken, at least something changed. Either the cap swap or cleaning the servo cured the surge. From what I understand the car is supposed to hold the set speed and not accelerate when cruise is engaged, but both of mine always did it, at-least until now. The way that mine slowly failed over time is that it started dropping-out more and more often and refusing to engage at all more and more often until it didn't work at all for probably the last 2 years.

cheers,
c

Interesting. I have my CC computer out, does anyone know if there is a schematic or pinout we can use to build a test rig?
