Post For those of you with Pre-85.5 interiors, what can be done to make them better?

I might be buying a 1985 944 with the pre-85.5 interior. I like the look of the later version but if I get the car I have to deal with this interior. For those of you who have it, how is it? Does it look as bad or as "not cool" as i think? What trim parts, etc can I buy to make it look better? Thanks!

The only advantage I can think of is that you can (if you wish) do some modifying and put DVD monitor in the "flat" dash. I prefer the early dash better, the newer style looks to big to me, IMHO.

I pulled my dashboard apart and sanded/prepped and painted the gauge housing and the center console where the AC controls/Oil Pressure Gauge etc are located to match the exterior of the car. Gemini Grey Metallic so it's not too gaudy and looks a lot better than the faded paint that was on there.
Putting it back together was a b%tch. I think I screwed up the AC controls and now it only blows hot air.
Working on fixing that one...

The best feature of the "old" dash:

REVERSE TACH

I love it.

The only think I did was purchase a dash cover from coverlay manufacturing. I was very pleased with it, much better than looking at cracks.

I personally like both dashes. I really don't think you will regret getting a car with the older dash. The tach is a piece of cake to read, and the center console gauges are neat with a nostalgic analog clock and oil pressure gauge. Some people like the look of a lower profile cd/radio/tape player. I have a pioneer cd player that the previous owenr put in and it looks fine. Keeping everything clean and conditioned also helps make the interior look nicer. Hope this helps!

I personally like the early dash, the later one's reminds me of a family sedan.
