Unhappy my car got whacked, but there's hope. really could use some feedback

yesterday morning, i got into a bit of an... altercation. i was at a stop light, and got rearended by a silveraado, and pushed into another car. i got hit pretty hard, and i wrinkled the worst panel. just behind the door, there is a big dent on the rear quarter. i know how bad that is... the problem is, i think i bent the unibody pretty good because now my door binds when i try to shut it, and the damage to the silverado is disproportionate to the visable damage of my car. the door goes, just with some persuation. i work for an independant porsche shop, with an ajoining body shop, and the body guys are pretty sure the car is gonna get totalled, just because it would cost so much to fix. i have not had the adjuster look at it yet, but the the body guy could probably sway him to get the most i could out of the car.

theres a 951 for sale that i know of, that we have done all the work on. the gentlemen selling it is buying a house, and tight for money, so the car is a smokin' deal. its an 86 turbo with an autothority package, and mass air sensor. the top end was just rebuilt buy us, and its got a new rack in it. plus he says the motor pulls really hard. so the car is 4200 bucks, and i talked to the guys at work, and the car is in good shape, worth more than 4200. also, the guy just moved to reno, and the car is with him. what a drive

so here's my dilema: i really like my car, but i know i would like a turbo. my car holds a certain sentimental value, as all of out cars do, but this is my first car. also, my insurance will definatly go up. what kills me, is that my car is not dead. the drivetrain is good, and the body was strait, and had decient paint. i dont want the car to be thrown away basically. that is the one major thing keeping me away from the turbo is not wanting to waste my car.

i would love some help. and if anybody in the phoenix area is looking for a good engine, or what ever, drop me a line
i might just but it back, and part it out.

take care, and thanks for your help,
brian

Don't wait, $4,200 is a nice price for a 951. The best price I have seen (until now) on a 951 that was in good shape is $4,700...but it had 160K on it.

First off, all states are different - all insurance companies are different. Now having said that, State Farm in Texas charges the same for a Turbo as they do a n/a. I'm assuming that's what you mean by the rates going up. If it's due to the collision, you shouldn't have a rate increase since it wasn't your fault. By all means ask your insurance company what your rate will be for the Turbo, it just might surprise you.

The Turbo sounds like a heck of a deal! <img border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" title="" src="graemlins/bigok.gif" />

Yea insurance is some @#%#@ becuase if you own a car like mine and its totaled you litteraly get nothing even though when in good condition $17000 is a price that you could sell it for. The insurance company as I have seen gives you its blue book value around $9,000 witch seems like some **** to me becasue for 9k you are not going to get another car like the one you had.(IE rare s2 cabriolet) Also my car has been rearended 2 times and has totaled both the cars that rearended me. 1st was a jeep grand cherokee the 2nd was a honda accord (brand new). The honda was undrivable both front wheels and suspention bent all to hell, crushed hood and airbags didn't go off. The driver of the accord broke there ankle and wrist. My car had small crack on bumper pad and the right rear bumper cap was slightly cracked. The stupid *** driver not paying attention I mean my car is freaking bright red!

The insurance company is probably gonna clobber you because of the stripped interior. try to put it back together before the adjuster shows up so they appraise a complete car.

Get the turbo, buy your old car back from the insurance company for salvage, then part it out. You'll be way ahead. Keep the Porsche badge from it for sentimental value.

Oh, and sell me your safety devices cage to me at a good price. I'm seriously interestested in that if you decide to part it out.
