Post Faulty Variocam?

The problem is that the engine is hesitating between 3000-4000rpm at wide open throttle (no problem exept with wide open throttle). After 4000rpm it runs perfectly. Before 3000rpm it is a bit rough.

We always suspected it was the injectors, so we planned on not changing them since we would need larger ones for the turboconversion anyway. With new injectors installed the engine behaves in the exact same way.

Then we unhooked the Variocam plug, and the engine ran perfect and smooth at all rpm's. A bit less power but smooth as a kitten.

What is wrong?? Is it the hydraulic piece on the Variocam itself or could it be something else?

Have anyone experienced this before?

The variocam solenoid is a cheap and simple replacement I would try it first.
