Need clutch job help in JAX, FL
Seth at Technical Dimensions was nice enough to do some diagnosis for me today. We took the inspection plugs out and moved the drive shaft back and forth. While there is a lot of R&P slop in the transmission, the clutch is allowing a lot of movement so something is fubar there too.
Unfortunately he doesn't allow customers to supply parts and I just can't afford to pay what he is asking (once you factor in slave/master, speed & ref sensors, tranny mounts, etc) which will be about $3000.
So I either need to part the car or sell it, or I need some people to come help me out on one of the following weekends: Jul 17-19, Jul 24-26, Jul31-Aug 2.
The good news is that we will have access to a lift. The bad news is that the lift will be outside. I do have a fan.
I need a truck from someone because we can't leave the car at the place with the lift, so we need to be able to drop it on a trailer WHEN something goes wrong and we can't get it all done in a day. I can pay to rent a uhaul trailer.
For you civilians, you will get to experience the thrill of coming onto a military base (ooooh ahhhh) and I of course will provide lots of beer afterwards (possibly during but I'm not sure of the rules.)
Travis go ahead and start getting me a price list for all those clutch job parts...and while you're at it come over here and help!
Stupid car.

Thanks guys! Yeah the base hobby shop at mayport. Not sure about leaving cars there but don't think you are supposed to. I'm an ensign on the USS Underwood and some of the guys in the wardroom have trucks so I might be able to borrow those.

It's a northern car...you underestimate its ability to turn the easiest of jobs into the impossible. It took Brad at Digital Chassis 4 days of break free, torch, pickle forks, and breaker bars to remove the tie rod ends.

Okay guys just realized that I will be underway this Saturday, and the hobby shop is open Mon-Fri 9am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm. Closed on Sundays. So we either need to get it knocked out the 17th and 18th, the 24th and 25th, or the 31st and the 1st. On any given Friday I will probably be on the ship until 4pm or 5pm. If they'll let us leave it at the shop (I'll check on that tomorrow) then we can maybe get it taken apart some on Friday and then knock it all out on Saturday.
Input? What's good for your schedules?

Hey Ash, Its still sounds like it would be cheaper for you to set the 44 to the side till you can trailer it back. No sense rushing the job, and besides I have had Just about everyother bolt off the damn thing... Let me know. And i promise to leave the tin foil in place...

If you hadn't touched the custom foil heat shields those strut mounts would still be good! Haha. Well I paid for monthly rental so we can leave the car there until the middle of august. I have all my air tools here too and the parts should be here by this Friday. I am just goingto start chipping away at it until I get it all done. Anyone still interested in helping in the next few weeks? Afternoons and Saturdays are the available times. Fun fun!
