Default Steering / Alignment question

Hey everyone

I had a question about my alignment. When I'm driving down the road, the car seems to pull slightly to one side. When I turn, though, it feels that the momentum shifts to the other side and it starts pulling in the other direction.

Since I still have the old manual steering rack, I'm wondering if this sensation is just normal. However, I really don't recall it occurring before I made the engine swap, so its possible I screwed something up down there =)

Any diagnostic info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Jared

Could be something loose. I had a feeling similar to that just before a balljoint completely broke off a control arm while driving, so have it checked asap.

Sounds like maybe loose bearings. Bearings will shift as weight transfers.

Steering Knuckle Tie rod end will do this before catastrophe.

Sounds like either toe out in the front or something loose causing the steeering to move to toe out.

I was thinking unequal caster left to right, would throw off the toe angle with steering input...

Have it put on a alignment rack and check the caster...

Mid track session , i had a casterblock move and it only will cause a sharp pull to one side .

I would check tie rod ends inner and outer and ball joints

Wow... thanks for all the info! I hate getting underneath that thing, but I don't really want a catastrophe either.

Thanks

yea start by checking that everything is tight underneath. caster block, bearings, bushings, tie rod and ends, ball joint as mentioned, lower strut bolts...everything

then go get an alignment. off camber or off toe might lead to some side to side.

I had something similar; not quite the same - track felt fine until you cornered, whereupon there was a distinctive 'weight shift' which was most disconcerting.

Turned out to be a broken front ARB mount.

New mount, all fine. Cost a fiver from my local OPC.

Oli.

ETA: Your problem could be similar, coupled with a dodgy alignment. Perhaps. Maybe ... ?
