unfortunately...Im also swapping the strut inserts...coils....arm bushings...swaybar bushings...and motor mounts....so Im not too convinced I will be able to preserve more then a rough alignment...and Ive actually never done an alignment myself...
as for the steering....I ordered the manual steering setup about 10 min after my last post....so sooner or later...ill have a spare powersteering setup of my own to get rid of.

Joe, what tire size do you use on the front in the race car? I'm thinking about a manual rack, but run 245...
Techartisan, your comparison of 3.7 vs 3.8 turns lock-to-lock isn't accurate, because you don't (or didn't say) how the turning radius compares. they might have the same lock-to-lock, but the nova (was that it?) might do it in a 50' circle and the 944 might do it in a 30' circle - meaning the gear ratios are different - the 944 turns the wheels more for the same movement of the steering wheel.

245's might be a bit big for a manual rack. The steering effort especially with sticky tires may override the feel force you put more effort into the wheel vs the feedback.
When autocrossed my stock 83 944 on 225/50 street tires the manual rack was a hinderance. The there were too many turns in too little space and I put more effort putting muscle in to turning than feeling the tires.
