JMO, but 225s on 7 inch wheels maybe a little big for autocrossing use. They may look good and fit but I am not ure if it is a safe choice. I use 205 upfront (7 inch) and 225 in the rear (8 inch). I know that this is not ideal and I do have some understeer but I think if you are going to run 225 all around you should look into getting some 8 inch wheels upront...again, JMO.

I'm not sure if I can find 16x8's of this kind of wheel

I might just do what you guys did

how did you counter the understeer you got form tires? is it really noticible?

The understeer is really not that bad. The thing that sucks is that a 205 tire has a small patch and as such does not have a lot of grip. Just don't over drive them and you will be fine. You can play with tire pressure. I have 30mm front and 19 mm rear adjustable sway bars plus adjustable Konis that really made the difference. May car really feels neutral and when it has understeer or oversteer a couple of turns on the Koni fronts dials it out. But I don't think it is much of a problem with understeer having 205 fronts and 225 rears...it just has you wanting more grip is all.

came back from the track. started session with 35psi cold. first session was a bit understeery. upped rear tire pressure by 2psi. it was quite neutral.

this is with 200 springs stock sway in front. stock torsion 18mm sway in rear. koni yellow on all 4 on full stiff

ordered hawk hp+ and ate super blue immediately OMG i was fading bad.

so how did you like the tires?

also does it matter what the wheel measures from inner lip to outer lip?

maybe not the best pics, but this is how the 225/50 looked on the 8

I'm surprised I don't have better pics

guess I wonder why you guys say that it will be too much sidewall (and assuming, roll?) my galant had 215/45/17 and I hated how "stiff" and "bouncy" it was

but, are "high perfomance summer tires" wider/taller then allseasons, or generally the same size? because then maybe 205 does not sound that bad after all (and no, I wont be rotating them or anything) ...

btw I looked at the tire size calculator and 205/55/16 is pretty much the same size as 225/50/16

but a 205/55 is a better fit for the 7" wheel then a 225/50?

yea tire diameter is close enough for 205/55/16 and 225/50/16

my dislike is the overbulge of 225/50 compared to 205/55 on a 7 wide. your contact patch will be shorter and wider, yes but when turning, the sidewall stiffness is compromised just cause it's sitting 1/2 inch outside of the rim lip.

and here's my last question:

205/55 tire doesnt has as much "extra" sidewall as a 225/50? its narrower and possibly slightly taller?

205 is the tread width in mm
55 is the aspect of the sidewall to tread width.

so there's 205*0.55 of sidewall height=112.8mm=4.4inches of sidewall height

225 tread width
50 aspect
225*0.55 sidewall height = 112.5mm=still about 4.4 inches of sidweall height

no no no, I mean - I've read about people having tires side by side and seeing a noticible difference between the tires, so I was wondering - as with Yoko's you have now - when you saw them side by side, much difference or same size but one is not as wide (just like the tire size calculator says)?

can you post a side shot of your car as it sits now?

hmm i can't tell there's a visible difference. esp since they're on diff rim widths. i'll take a couple of front and rear 1/4 shots tonite.

what about Toyo tires? R1R?

from what I've read around on SCCA forums and Grassroots etc. looks like a 205 tire is for 6-7-8 and 225 is good for 7-8-9

looking at this chart for Toyo's btw:

http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/pr...cktabs-pattern

and also, why not go for smaller sidewall and go with 225/45/16 all around?

225/45/16 will be a bit off, speedo wise. u'll be effectively changing gear ratio. which may be a good or bad depending on your needs.
