So far, I have done all of my own wrenching -- with occasional help from Rennlist friends. "realiable" and "cheap" usually don't go hand-in-hand....

Fix my clutch, there seems to be a spring broken internally causing the clutch fork to not return. I already changed out the slave cylinder and tried taking off half the exhaust studs but ran into issues with the wastegate. I don't have time to mess with the car as work projects are ramping up again.

Or if you have access to a truck and can tow the car away I will let it go for $5,000. Car is a cream puff with uncracked dash and guards red paint, little over 102k miles. PM me for details and contact. Car is inside of a garage at my parents house in Pasdena.

A lot of the NorCal 944Spec guys use Art at Autopoint Motors in Pt Richmond for work they can't handle themselves. He has built at least 4 engines for us including the engine used in our 25 Hours of Thunderhill car.

He is very familiar with 944's.

I'm available for working on cars in norcal/bay area if anybody wants help. I'm usually free sat-sun-mon as I generally work only 4 days a week. I've done almost everything possible on these cars except for rear suspension work. Install front suspension, rebuilt steering rack and pump, rebuilding a/c compressor, pulled engine, rebuilt bottom end of my engine, rebuilt multiple other non-porsche engines, done head gaskets in-car, vacuum lines, clutch replacement, clutch hydraulic cylinders, exhaust replacement and leak fixing, interior work, stereo, etc, etc.

Arash has been known to help listers work on their cars in the past as well, but his availability depends upon his school schedule and whatnot.

Joe, if you are looking for help with your cars let me know. I'd have a fun time poking around the 968 stuff.

Will do -- these days I could use an extra hand for my wrenching sessions b/c one arm usually has a baby in it. Can't wait until she can start passing me tools and stuff....

I would love to get my 944 running again. I loved that car but have yet to learn about car internals / mechanics and need someone else to do the labor. My budget is tight and I don't know when or if I'll be able to get it fixed.

I'm waiting to hear back from two people. One might be able to get me the required parts at a good price. The other said he could help with mechanics, but I need to find out his price. If you or anyone else here qualified and in the San Diego area could offer a better price I want to find out.

My car is a 1985 (early model) 944. It quietly died as I stopped at a red light. I had the radio on at medium volume and saw the oil light come on and barely noticed the lack of vibration from the motor stopping. Didn't hear any bad sounds. Tried a few times to start it with no luck. Had it towed to Black Forest Automotive which was nearby and hoped for the best, but no such luck. They came back saying the timing belt broke and it would be around $2500 to fix (parts and labor). More than I could afford and the car has just been sitting since then.

At least on the Pelican Parts forums I got some feedback that it could be done much cheaper if I take a little initiative.

Even if you don't wind up helping with this fix, it would be cool to know a couple local guys who know Porsche's at the mechanical work level. Later I could maybe use help doing some upgrades (once I have good income).

One of you should drive to my Grandmother's house in Folsom and fix her Civic.

alex - assuming it was out of the car already, if it could be done at my house (need my big air compressor) parts and labor should be around $250.

do you happen to have a spare torque tube with one of your parts cars? that would make it easier and minimize the downtime for your car

sooner the better since we will be rebuilding my original tube with delrin sleeves soon, the one in the car was rebuilt with aluminum sleeves that sound like a coffee grinder lol
