Default Engine Rebuild cost

How much would it cost to rebuild a standard 8 valve maybe with higher compression pistons?

I'd add 2 x knock sensors as well.

wouldn't the exhaust valves, valve guides, and springs be included in the head rebuild from Lindsey? I thought that they're stage 1 head package (~600 + options for 8v) included that stuff.

Also, if you're not building a high boost turbo or all-out race engine, stock con rods can be used to keep costs down. That should pull a couple grand out of the estimate, but then again, that's not including labor to take the old engine out and put the new one in.

Does anybody know how long that would take a competent shop, on average?

88 pistons that are 10.2 are out there . Took me around 4 months to source a set in the tolerance group i needed for a reasonable price . Ya just gotta be persistent and get to know people . Most sellers wanna sell you the whole motor . EvilBAY UK occasional will have a sets of Euro 10.5 pistons listed .

Add in approx. 40+hrs ($3,500-$4,000+) of shop time to Chad's parts list if you're not doing the work yourself...

Full rebuild with engine taken out.

I bought a rebuild kit for $900. Came with all gaskets, bearings, valve guides and piston rings.

I had my head done by a family friend for $100 included machining the surface flat. I got lucky and saved a lot there.

Polished the crank and checked the pistons at a shop for $100.

Got all new coolant hoses, engine mounts, belts, rollers, and some other things that made the total around $1600.

I guess the actual rebuild only cost me around $1200 then I had to buy other things.

if you were closer to me and didn't wanna do the work yourself i'd do it, but i'm in nj/pa not exactly close.

tony when you did the work, did you have the block machined or anything or just place new parts into it?

No my block was fine, the tolerances where all within spec. Used a dingle berry hone and did a very quick spin in the bores to get the slight glazing off.

I figured these engines cost about 1500 to rebuild. Granted my rings are shot so it would most likely have to be bored over a little then new rings and pistons put in.
