My father just bought a 1975 911 Targa last weekend. His first comment to me was "It feels like a Bug with a big engine!"

He bought it to turn around and sell it but as of yesterday he called me back to tell me he'll be keeping it at least through the summer. So I guess there's still something magical about it.

I personally still prefer some of the creature comforts and refinement my S2 offers - if I were to replace it with a 911 it would have to be a 993 Cab.

Interesting to see this thread resurrected. I've looked at quite a few 911's since it was first posted.

Funny thing is, I haven't pulled the trigger yet. First reason was my wife, but I've overcome that hurdle.

Another reason is that my 951 is in such great shape mechanically, and the mods are just where I want them. It seems silly to get rid of it when everything is coming together on it.

A third reason reason is that I haven't been able to negotiate what I considered to be a good deal on a 911. I know if someone buys my 951 they will want, and get, a great deal. It just seems like those 911 owners are a little tight when it comes to negotiating. Or I haven't found the right owner yet.

The final reason is that I think I'll miss her. We've had our differences when it comes to cost of repair, but that boost is really something. I wonder if I would miss it.

My 23 year old son recently mentioned that a younger friend of his might be interested in buying it. Everyone at the table chimed in..."you can't sell your turbo to him..... it's just that it's so fast..." Kind of neat.

Damn indecision! <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />

I wouldn't do it. I've owned an 86 911. While it was a fun car, it had a lot more handling than horsepower. 1 day at the track, and you will want your turbo back in a heartbeat. Also, the interior on the 911 is pretty bland.
