Default oil pressure behavior

i'm not sure if this is normal or not.

over past winter, i swapped out rod bearings and put in oil pan baffle and reinforced the oil pickup tube. i had been having 2 bar hot idle, middle of 3 bar cruising, past 4 at high rpm.

last weekend, i noticed that even as i was in the upper rpm's, my oil pressure would not top past 3. sometimes even cruising would be in the high 2's.

the weather has been peaking into the 90's recently....is that it?

using kendall GT-1 20W50. wondering if there'd be any good going with straight 50

Im in Ga andf it has been hot as hell here. I usually get 2 bar at idle warm, but when driving, cruising etc it is always above 4 . Dont know if that helps

I believe under 2 hot idle is the beginning of the danger zone. Never a bad idea to check the connections on the pressure sender.

I have been told by different sources to look for 10psi per 1000 RPM. That would mean 2 bar at 3K RPM, and 4 bar at 6K.

3 at speed sounds low. It sucks cause I am chasing the same issue on a new motor. If the bearings are not properly gapped your pressures could end up low.

Always consult your FSM. According to that, you should have at idle 2.5 bar or more. At 4000 rpm you should have greater than 4.5 bar.

Having 3 bar at cruising sounds way low to me. Mine goes to 5 bar at anything above 2500 rpm. Even at the track, it rarely goes below 5 bar while pounding around, and 3 bar while idling.

Your oil is too heavy. If you are pegging the OPRV at 2500 RPM, you aren't getting the volume you need to properly cool and lubricate. There's more to oil than high pressure.

i gonna go for a test drive tonite and watch the gauge.

oil pressure should be directly related to RPM right? shouldn't matter what throttle position or engine load...right?

Right...my point is that when your water temp is up, it doesn't mean that your oil is a full temp yet. The coolant warms up much faster. Drive around for a half hour or 45 minutes, THEN you should have full oil temp. At that point you can start being concerned about low oil pressure at RPM. Before then, you are still getting "artificially" high pressure readings (because your oil is still thick).

First check the sender and if it checks out you should check the OPRV.

What oil temps are you seeing (do you have an oil temp guage?)
How long since you have changed the oil/filter?

It may be starting to shear...
