-I am about 80% satisfied with my car. After I do the motor mounts and a few other repairs, I should be 99% satisfied (if I was 100% satisfied there will be no room for upgrades or improvements.)
-I've owned it since November of 2002, my dad owned it from January of 1984 until 1986 I believe
-I plan on keeping this car indefinitely

I'm happy with my current Porsche. But I don't think the build quality on anything after the 993 is all that great, so I probably won't be buying anything after the 993 era.

OK, I'll play devil's advocate here. Gives me an opportunity to vent as well, so take it with a grain of salt....

Am I satisfied? Jury is still out. I've had mine for only 6 months, but I've already had to drop $3.2 grand into repairs and replacements, most of it because the PO was too cheap to fix it, so he sold it instead. So, my first experience has not been good! Without a doubt, this is already the most expensive car I've ever owned (and I've owned many), due to the very high cost of parts, repair labor rates, insurance, maintenance, plus only one authorized dealer in my state being 300 miles away. I've got so much money in it now, I would never sell it because I would not get even half back from what's already been put in it. So, I'll drive it till the day it dies!

Which brings me to my first point;
1) Have you noticed that many of the folks on here have a porsche for sale? If the car was that good, they would tend to keep them, wouldn't they? Or (heaven forbid), somebody's getting bored and want something else......

Second point:
2) Most people drive these cars for fun. But for reliable transportation, everyone seems to also own a second car for when these things crap out, and they tend to break down every time you turn around, and at the worst possible times, and are a PITA to fix!

OK, for the good news:
When it does run good, it runs very good. Nice and smooth with steady, even acceleration. The 3.2k I've dropped into it is starting to pay off. These are not rocket cars, being only a 2.5 liter 4-banger. But they do get you down the road quick enough. Turbos even more so.
So, there you go. My short-term, amateur evaluation. Jury is still out..........

I have had only one car I did not drive to the junk yard, weird that way I guess. It was a 70 mach 1. sold it in 86 when I had a kid. Kid just graduated.. Keep putting money in this... Cause when I drive something else I just wish I was in MY 944!!! Nothing else compares. Everytime I think about it I don't sleep so well and get cranky... Funny huh? but a fact.

I too would be much more satisfied if i could rely on my car as a daily driver. Even though I haven't brought my car up to daily driver status yet, I still get satisfaction from working on the car. Look at it this way, your car is getting more reliable by the day and you are driving around in such a fine marque for under 10 grand.

Up here in the Highlands they buy a car - run it - and dump it. Maintenance never heard of it. Service - forget it.

I spend a LOT of time amd money on my cars, indeed more than on the wife, and spend a lot of the time working under it or in it.

The CLASSIC quote from a local when he saw me polishing the car was "Oh, are you selling it then?"

When it rains here THAT'S a car wash.

Too many people buy cars, run em and junk em. If you're VERY unfortunate you might end up with one of them as the PO.

I bought the '84 in June 1995, it was my first Porsche, with 60k on it, its been my daily driver a lot of the time since then. Its parked right now, waiting for me to track down a significant oil leak, but it also has 300k miles on it. Its been the best car I have ever owned, and I am just giving it a breather for the moment, before I fix it and run it up to 500k miles. At that point, I will drop a new engine and drivetrain in it and give it to my daughter, which should be just in time for her 16th birthday.

The '86 951 was a birthday present to myself back in 1999, with a shade over 100k on it. It just rolled over 171k on the way back from 944Fest. This car has cost me a lot of money to get in decent mechanical shape, but I have certainly learned a bunch on it and have no regrets.

My '92 968 was purchased in January 2001 with 34k miles on it, and currently has 52k miles on it. This car has cost me next to nothing so far, aside from the purchase price and tires, and the parts for one complete belt job. True, it hasn't been driven like the other cars, but still... its not like it doesn't ever get driven.

Well maintained examples of these cars will treat you well. Bad examples... well, just hope you don't get one...
