Post Body filler question

Ok. it's been a LONG time since I did any body work to my cars and the last time was in the 70's... Only thing available was Bondo. I'm doing all the prep and ding repair on my 944 and would like some feedback on filler types. No major dents, just your ripples, dings and chips etc... I would certainly consider myself a novice. Thanks!

I always use Duraglass for the first coat on bare metal since it doesn't absorb water like regular bondo and will keep the metal from ever rusting. You can then use the regular bondo right over that for the final finish. Bondo even has some super lightweight filler now.

Good luck!

Is Duraglass a fiberglass resign? Someone told me to use that for all of the small ding repair and not bother with plastic filler??

what? sorry but you are wrong. If you have a ding that is an eighth or smaller deep, a ding, you can sand it out, and fill it with evercoat ''metal glaze'' filler. if it is deeper, use a body filler, evercoat is among the best. Sanding w/ 80 grit sandpaper is recommended for both applications. Duraglass is a fiberglass filler for doing fiberglass repair'' minor'' and you can use it in some applications on metal as to fill a larger area or like i use it over welds to seal them up b/f i start bodywork. The best way to start is to make sure there are no hi spots first, just low, by blocking the surface. this will show just where the ding, etc, is.

Sorry Myrtle 944, I didn't read you were only dealing with small dings. Duraglass would not be the choice for those repairs. I will still say it's a great choice for a base filler on a larger "metal" repair since it's pretty much waterproof compared to regular fillers. There are also fillers which contain a percentage of aluminum for rust prevention but are only good as a base just like the Duraglass to be filled over with regular filler.

The metal glaze mentioned would work fine.

Thanks for the response. If only this weather would move out, I could get started. Will look for evercoat, as it sounds easy to work with.
