Question Lindsey Boost Enhancer - worthwhile?

I have been looking at quite a few 951s lately and occasionally one will have this device installed. Anyone care to comment on it? Is there any way it could have a detrimental effect on the car?

I've been to the Lindsey Racing site and read up on it so I understand what it does and how it works, I just wonder why they didn't post any hard performance numbers like improved 0-60 or 1/4 mile times. Makes me wonder if it really does all that much.

If I buy a car that doesn't have one, should I get one? They sure don't cost much. Anyone have one and care to comment?

Thanks,

Alan

Have used one almost two years. It's the best 'cheap' performance upgrade for 951.You get full power about 900 rpm earlier. Also Lindsey bros. are very helpful.

My car has on also. It is highly likely that you would get different results comapred to a rest car that Lindsey posted 0 to 60 times. this is because all stock wastegates are not alike. Some are weaker than others. I think you would still get better results with a device like this than without one. The BE is no more than a pneumatic pressure relief valve. It opens once the set pressure is reached. You can buy an adjustable pressure relief valve typically used on an air compressor for $18 at Home Depot. Here is an article that explains what these things do. There are other ones out there besides Lyndsey's. I am planning to do some modifying with my BE by adding a pressure regulator downstream of it and bypassing the cycling valve. http://www.autospeed.com/A_0670/page1.html

Thumbs up

I just put a Lindsey Boost Enhancer on my 1989 951 two weeks ago. It makes a difference, but it isn't huge. They told me that the 1988 S cars and the 1989 cars run into a problem of running too lean with the BE. The computer is not aware how much air the car is actually getting, so it is unable to compensate by dumping more fuel. This is evidently not an issue with the 217hp models. The actual change in stop light to stop light power for my car is small enough, that I'm not sure if it is really there or it's just my imagination. I do feel like it helps power at higher speeds, though. All in all, for $100, how can you go wrong?

When does full boost hit for you?

I bypassed the cycling valve with an MBC..and I see full (16psi) around 3400-3500rpm in the gears that count (2nd and 3rd). Cruising at 5th at 3k rpm, it'll make full boost if I hit it.

For $50 you can get a hallman boost controller (MBC) that bypasses the cycling valve and lets you make full boost at part throttle.

It made a big seat of the pants difference in my car. These things are so cheap and easy to install, it make sense to give them a try. I got mine used for $50. If you are aready running chips, make sure you install the stock banjo.
