Default 944 S2 vs 951

Hello, I was wondering if it would be possible to put a turbo in a 944 S2 and make it comparable to a 951 performance-wise (since it already has a 3.0L 208hp engine). Also, if so, what kind of cost would I be looking at?

Thanks in advance!!!

Anything is possible. However it isn't a simple task, and doing it right is quite involved...

Do a search for "3.0 944 turbo". There's been a bunch of discussions on this before, with a lot of good stuff said, if you search I'm sure you'll find them. Good Luck.

Just boost the stock S2 motor with a thick gasket, leave the internals alone. Don't turn the **** too high.

Drive it till you break something then sleeve it

The video is absolutely fabulous Indie Red ain't THAT bad color, it just needs good polishing so it won't look like 10 year old Opel Astra. Fast driving and overtaking... that's the message we want to give out to the public, eh??

I am not sure the OP's question has been asked before in so many words.

An S2 as a starting point for a low boost 16v turbo is an interesting idea but the price tag would be pretty high. Power output might be pretty good, easily too much for the stock internals so one would have to keep the boost reasonable. If, for example, you were shooting for 250-280whp that could be done on an S2 turbo conversion for $10k-$15k, or less if you are a good fabricator with lots of spare time. Tuning and engine management would be expensive. It would be important to get the tuning right without destroying the motor in the process.

A stock 951 can get to that point more easily but would lack the low end torque and driveability of a low boost 16v turbo S2. A modded or even stock 951 is laggy enough to be irritating as a daily driver if there are stop signs and stoplights involved so that might be a problem you want to throw ten grand at.

The issues are that there are no prefabricated turbo intakes and turbo exhausts for the 16v, and no engine management and tuning data.

If you are interested in boosting an S2, check out the 968 forum where the recently developed 968 supercharger is being adapted to the S2. That might hit your HP and driveability goals for only $5k or so. Perhaps only stock 951s power but without the get-out-and-push low RPM lag.

back on topic, turbos require more attention and loving then N/A vehicles. cause there is just more involved in the motor with the turbo and all other hardware. this is all imo, of coarse. and you also need a fat checkbook as well to turbo any car
